Under new management

HP Hotels, Hay Creek Hotels and Restaurants, and Lodging Dynamics have all added to their portfolios.

Rhaglan Hospitality selects HP Hotels to manage two AL properties
HP Hotels, a full-service third-party hotel management company, has been chosen by Rhaglan Hospitality to manage its Redmont Hotel Birmingham, Curio Collection by Hilton and St. James Hotel Selma, Tapestry Collection by Hilton properties.

Each of the hotels feature extensive renovations that touch on many aspects of the historic Alabama downtown properties.

The 14-story, including rooftop, Redmont Hotel Birmingham is Alabama’s oldest operating hotel, named after the city’s Red Mountain. When the hotel opened in 1925, it featured ultramodern, luxurious accommodations for its time, including private baths, ceiling fans and chilled water.

Its history includes being where famed country singer Hank Williams spent his last night; and being owned by an investment group made up of NBA players, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Ralph Sampson. The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Following a multimillion-dollar renovation, aided by Alabama Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits and tax incentives from the City of Birmingham, the hotel reopened as part of the Curio Collection by Hilton brand, featuring 120 boutique guestrooms, nearly 3,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, the Harvest Restaurant & Bar, the 2101 Café and The Roof rooftop lounge, which provides views of the Birmingham skyline.

Following a multimillion-dollar property development, renovation and new construction undertaken by Rhaglan, the 55-room St. James Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton opened in January 2021 in Selma’s downtown historic district. Sitting adjacent to the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Alabama River, the main building of the hotel was constructed in 1836. It is the only riverfront pre-Civil War-era hotel still in existence.

From the original oil paintings in the guestrooms to the period antiques in the common areas to the brick courtyard, the St. James has been redesigned to retain the historic features of the property, while incorporating contemporary design elements throughout, with many rooms offering a spectacular view of the Alabama River. The hotel features the Sterling Restaurant & Bar and is proximate to a treasure trove of pre- and post-Civil War history, as well as Civil Rights history, in downtown Selma.

Hay Creek Hotels and Restaurants adds four hotels
Hay Creek Hotels and Restaurants has added four more properties to its expanding 34-hotel management portfolio, three of which are restoration projects—a specialty and founding pillar of the company.

Among the hotels added to the portfolio are:

The Stonebreaker is a complete restoration project of the Pratt Place Inn & Barn situated on 200+ acres of land in Fayetteville, AR that is scheduled to break ground in late July. Located outside of downtown Fayetteville and within walking distance to the University of Arkansas, the project consists of an upper-upscale, 63-room hotel, a stand-alone restaurant and bar, wellness spa, pool, meeting and conference facilities, a dedicated barn for weddings, a 4-acre outdoor concert and event venue, as well as a private membership club.

Hay Creek is collaborating with Specialized Real Estate Group on the concept, positioning and design of the hotel and its membership club, and will operate the property upon completion in March 2024.

The company will be collaborating with Noble Investments/Family on the historic, 9-room Wilbur Mansion restoration project in Bethlehem, PA, that will include an addition of a 225-person capacity, new-build event space. The opening is scheduled for late summer/early fall 2022.

Hay Creek will work in collaboration with Spring City Development on the historic restoration of the Lodge at Schroon Lake, the former Word of Life compound, located in the Adirondack Region in Schroon Lake. It was originally constructed as the Brown Swan Club, an upscale exclusive lodge in 1920s.

The property is one hour north of Saratoga and four hours north of NYC and is situated on 36 acres overlooking Schroon Lake with 121 guestrooms along with stand-alone chalets and cabins, a 10,000-sq.ft. restaurant, 600-seat theater, meeting and conference facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, private beach and lakeside dockage for 30+ boats. Construction is scheduled to begin July and will include future cabin expansion, glamping sites and a planned dock with F&B/bar facility. Opening is slated for July 2023.

Horizon Hotel is located in Flushing, Queens, NY, close to the home of the U.S. Open’s Billie Jean King Tennis Center. The company will be working with Stonehill Taylor Interior Design and New Land Development on concept, design and positioning and will manage operations for the planned opening in May 2025. This upper-upscale property will have 202 guestrooms and suites, 150 residential condominiums, 200-person ballroom, upscale retail space and a number of bistros, bars and full-service restaurants with city views.
