The Darwin renovates

One of Atlanta’s newest boutique hotels, The Darwin, is located in the Old Fourth Ward and brings eclectic design to the city.

Atlanta-based C+TC Design Studio completed the renovation. Originally built to house workers for the 1996 Olympics, The Darwin has quite a history. After the Olympics, the property became a Red Roof Inn and then the Ponce Hotel and then completed closed in 2017. After several years of being shuddered, C+TC Design Studio was approached by the owners in 2020 to work on the architecture and interior design.

The hotel’s name comes from the remarkable changes that the Old Fourth Ward has undergone, and the theme of evolution and time are prominent throughout the hotel. The lobby features several hourglasses, representative of time, and lamps, titles on the bar face and bar pendants are reminiscent of a time capsule. The NanaWall behind the lobby fully opens to a courtyard that evokes a feeling of a secret garden. The courtyard is also centered around a tree that has been there since 1996.
