Nestled in the hills along Menger Creek northwest of San Antonio, Boerne, TX, combines picturesque small-town charm with the accessibility and amenities of its big-city neighbor. Visitors attracted to its historic shopping district and proximity to recreation areas will soon have new accommodation options while visiting the storied town. Internationally recognized design firm Cooper Carry has designed the architecture and restaurant, bar and lobby interiors for a 120-room, full-service hotel featuring outdoor event spaces, a 7,500-sq.-ft. conference center and a resort-style pool. Under a unique name that reflects its customized amenities, “The Bevy” is affiliated with DoubleTree by Hilton.
“As we put pen to paper, our mission was to create an authentic local destination for the guest that immersed them in the local culture,” said Rob Uhrin, principal at Cooper Carry. “Our clients were developing this hotel in their hometown and our job was to design an experience that introduced the visitor to the things that make Boerne special.”
Cooper Carry’s design team looked to the richness of the hotel’s surroundings for both inspiration and finish materials for its spaces. During construction, the development team was able to save and incorporate two oak trees on the property. The hotel lobby incorporates a full restaurant and bar and houses a local coffee shop—the Wander’n Calf. Its market features products from local wineries and honey from local bee keeper Winding Road Provisions. The hotel bar doubles as an interior/exterior feature by serving covered exterior dining porches and an outdoor bar counter. Elevated porches situated along the pool terrace have views toward the existing tree-lined Menger Creek. A fire hearth and outdoor cooking area anchor activity on the Pool Terrace.
“Boerne and the Texas Hill Country have a strong tradition of great food, music and hospitality. The lobby, restaurant, meeting facility and amenity space were crafted with this tradition in mind. The building is nestled into the site to take advantage of Menger Creek and designed to connect the guest with the outdoors. Local resident and visitor alike will find The Bevy a place to gather, dine and share in the unique culture for which Boerne is known,” Uhrin said.
Opened in July, the more-than-$25-million hotel has financial support from the city of Boerne and is a venture of two Boerne-based companies—hotel developer and operator Phoenix Hospitality Group, together with Partlow Properties and Investments. It sits on a 20.4-acre parcel of land but the hotel itself only occupies four acres of land along the creek. The rest of the property is being developed into a medical office park with restaurants sprinkled throughout.
