Shovels in the Ground for Projects in Mexico, Southern U.S.

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Sbe has entered a partnership with Be Grand to expand the Mondrian brand with the first-ever Mondrian Hotel & Residences in Mexico City, plus two new-build hotels are underway in the Carolinas.

Sbe Plans 10 Hotel & Residential Projects in Mexico

Global hospitality group sbe has entered a partnership with Be Grand and its CEO Nicolas Carrancedo to continue the aggressive expansion of the Mondrian brand with the first-ever Mondrian Hotel & Residences in Mexico City.

This property will also be the first of 10 sbe-branded properties that sbe and Be Grand will bring to Mexico City and its metropolitan area in the next five years. The second project to be announced will be Mondrian Del Valle, which will debut in 2022. The Colonnier y Asociados-designed tower will include 248 branded residences. In addition to the Mondrian properties, the upcoming projects will include other sbe brands, such as SLS and Hyde. Within these projects, sbe will also bring more than 25 restaurant and lounge concepts, featuring brands including Carna, Katsuya, Fi’lia, Cleo, S Bar and Doheny Room.

Breaking ground in Q1 of 2019 and set to open in 2021, Mondrian Polanco Hotel & Residences will have 144 hotel rooms including 15 luxury suites and 126 branded residences. The project will also feature Katsuya, as well as another sbe culinary concept and a soon-to-be-announced signature sbe mixology concept.

Aloft Coastline Breaks Ground in Wilmington, NC

The new Aloft Coastline Hotel has broken ground in Wilmington, NC. Poteat Hospitality is developing the property and will manage it once it opens. Clancy & Theys is the general contractor on the project. It is slated to open in mid-2020.

Once complete, the Aloft will have seven stories and 125 rooms, joining other accommodations and meeting facilities in the city’s convention district totaling nearly 900 rooms and suites. The district has seen $426.1 million in investments in the past five years alone. The hotel will be adjacent to the 100-year-old historic Coastline Conference & Event Center, which will be renovated as part of the project. The existing building will house an additional 3,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.

Construction Underway for Tru by Hilton in Columbia, SC

Parks Hospitality Group broken ground on a new Tru by Hilton property located in Columbia, SC. The 117-room, four-story hotel will be located at 183 Stoneridge Rd. and will be owned and operated by Parks Hospitality Group—the company’s third Tru by Hilton property in its portfolio. Construction is expected to be completed later this year. Parks Hospitality has plans to develop three additional Tru by Hilton properties in the near future.
