Outdoor Innovations

Spring has sprung and designers are taking inspiration from the great outdoors to craft their newest pieces. Here’s a look at some outdoor designs that are sure to delight as the seasons shift:

TUUCI

Northstar Mast

The nautically-inspired Northstar Mast is a state-of-the-art structural and aesthetic enhancement to parasol design that utilizes TUUCI’s channel and ridge marine architecture. Reminiscent of the mixed materials from sailing yachts and furniture designs, the Northstar Mast design enhances any of the Ocean Master Max styles with polished ridges positioned between arched channels and a finish of soothing wood tones or neutral powder coat hues.

Equinox Cabana with Automated Louvered Roof

New to TUUCI’s Equinox Cabana line, the Automated Louvered Roof consists of remote-controlled tilting louvers that can be easily adjusted to provide optimal amount of sunlight or fully closed to provide protection from rain as a discreet gutter system collects rainwater and efficiently moves it away from the cabana.

“Our goal is to bring thoughtful design to shade architecture while pushing the envelope of durability and function in the most extreme environments on earth,” said Dougan Clarke, founder/chief product architect, TUUCI. “Our products are designed to complement leisure lifestyles around the world while providing a unique ambiance in balance with the environment.”

Moooi

A collection of outdoor furniture designed by Italian designer Valerio Sommella, Barani combines function and decoration. The collection includes chairs, tables and cushions in three different colors; Charcoal, Scarlet and Oyster. The Barani family is weather resistant and can stay outside all-year-round.

“The inspiration for the Barani collection comes from a very personal memory, a black and white picture of my mother sitting on a white metal chair in my family house with a white metal table in the background, a picture of my grandmother’s dog standing on the same white chair and then memories of the same chairs and table on the terrace of our holiday house in Giglio Island in Tuscany where I go every year since I was a child. This is the starting point, then this memory is dissected, analyzed, redefined and reinvented,’’ Sommella said.

Carl Hansen & Son

First introduced to Carl Hansen & Søn’s collection of outdoor furniture in 2020, Børge Mogensen’s Outdoor series now expanded with the BM5565 Deck Chair with Footrest. With its inviting feel and light expression, this new addition invites a new sense of outdoor relaxation.

The Deck Chair Series is a complete range of outdoor furniture for use on balconies, patios and terraces. Designed to fulfill the need for comfortable yet space-saving outdoor furniture, the collection comprises a number of flexible pieces that are easy to move around. The foldable designs can be hung on a wall mount as a decorative feature when not in use.

“Børge Mogensen has been part of Carl Hansen & Son’s portfolio for a number of years and we are happy and proud to expand our outdoor collection with another classic from the design master. The series is not only beautiful, but also functional, comfortable and versatile, as it can be folded together and put away when not in use,” said Knud Erik Hansen, CEO of Carl Hansen & Son. “The Deck Chair with Footrest provides even greater comfort, almost like a sunbed but without the heavy appearance. The chair, therefore, appeals to a wider range of customers, as it can be placed in gardens, on balconies and terraces.”

Ethnicraft

Teak Jack Collection

Perfect for outdoor entertaining and relaxation, the Teak Jack collection presents an exciting new design. Beautiful from every angle, with sumptuous curves and forms, the Jack offers luxurious upholstered comfort and versatility to enjoy anywhere from an urban terrace to a countryside garden. The collection is available with cushions in off-white or mocha, as a lounge chair, and a two and three-seater sofa.

“It’s a classical look. Inspired from the danish designers from the 50s. But I was always looking for something light, not a very bombastic, big classic outdoor design,” said Jacques Deneef, designer, Ethnicraft.

Teak Bok

Making the most of outdoor dining, the new collection includes the iconic Bok dining table and chair, along with the Circle dining table and EX1 Chair have been specifically adapted for a new outdoor environment.

“Organic wooden forms bring us closer to nature. Curves and more natural lines reflect our environment. They are forms which are familiar to us,” said Alain van Havre, designer, Ethnicraft.

Extremis

Meet the all-aluminum version of the iconic Hopper table. A streamlined design made entirely from aluminum, available in five standard colors. Sleek but comfortable. The very feel Extremis wanted to create with the Hopper collection: long benches, low entry points and slanted bench corners make it easy to join and comfortable to sit. Whether it’s relaxing with friends or family, brainstorming with colleagues or lunching with customers, the Hopper fits every scene and every occasion.

“A picnic table at heart, this piece adds a playful yet architectural element to any indoor space or outdoor terrace,” said Dirk Wynants, designer, Extremis.
