Gettys Group names principal

The Gettys Group Companies, a family of companies focused on development, branding, interior design and procurement for global hospitality, commercial and multi-family projects, has welcomed the return of Chris McDonough to the Chicago-based firm. McDonough will serve as principal and head up the Chicago and Manila offices of Gettys Interiors and Gettys ONE, the company’s specialty select-service hotel design agency.

McDonough will draw upon his 25 years of experience including 13 years spent with The Gettys Group Companies, as well as his background in hospitality, food & beverage, retail, multi-family and custom residential projects. His aim is to execute the firm’s shared mission: to oversee all aspects of the project process—from business development to establishing scope to setting expectations—to guide his teams in creating projects around the world that are beautiful, functional and fiscally successful.

“I thrive on true collaboration,” said McDonough. “It’s a value that’s been core to Gettys from day one, and a key reason I decided to return to the firm. We are a group of companies with multidisciplinary talented people often working on a singular project. The result is true teamwork within our company, with our clients, and with the brands. If we can help facilitate collaboration with everyone involved, there’s no better feeling. I’m also excited to jump back into the amazing project list and the caliber of the work we get to do here. We really do care, and there is heart behind all our work.”

McDonough has worked on high-profile projects such as the Tribune Tower Residences (a 2022 Gold Key Finalist) and the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago, The Rand Tower Hotel in Minneapolis (a Marriott Tribute Portfolio), the Hyatt Regency in Portland, the Godfrey Hotel Hollywood in Los Angeles and the AGC Rotana & Rayhaan in Dubai.

“In addition to Chris’s highly acclaimed, innovative work as both an accomplished interior designer and licensed architect, his extensive leadership experience in the hospitality and design industries will be a tremendous asset for all of us and for the future of our company’s vision of serving our clients and our industry hospitably—with generosity, commitment and care,” said The Gettys Group Companies President Andrew Fay.
