Barrett Design Studio (BDS) of Jackson, MS, has been awarded three 2020 ASID South Central Regional Design Excellence Awards. The Gold Award for the Hospitality Division was awarded for the Hampton Inn & Suites in Ridgeland, MS, and the Silver Award for the Hospitality Division was awarded to BDS for the Holiday Inn & Suites in Pearl, MS. Celia Barrett, owner/principal designer of Barrett Design Studio, was awarded the Ovation Award for all commercial projects for her design of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Ridgeland.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled. My team and I enjoyed working on these hotels. Our fantastic clients were supportive and open to our ideas. It is so gratifying to be acknowledged by your peers,” Barrett said.
Gold Award: The Hampton Inn & Suites of Ridgeland, owned by Desai Companies, was touted as an elegant story of a hotel in an upscale shopping district. The soft neutrals with dressmaker details create a boutique hotel feel in the Hampton hotel. Barrett used one accent color, fuchsia, in special places. Much of the furniture is custom-designed, including a community table that was designed to be the “wow” factor.
Silver Award: The Holiday Inn & Suites of Pearl, owned by Trustmark Park Hotel LLC and managed by CDA Hospitality, is next to the Trustmark Park stadium that houses the Mississippi Braves, a minor league team of the Atlanta Braves, Bass Pro Shop and great shopping and dining. The Alumni House is a sports bar and grill inside the hotel lobby and receives positive reviews for food and decor.
The Ovation Award, given to Barrett, is a “best in show” type of award for the overall entries of commercial projects. “This one was truly a wonderful surprise,” Barrett said.
