A space for scholars

Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge has revealed an extensive property-wide renovation to enhance the hotel’s common spaces and meeting & events venues and introduce new dining venues. Following an upgrade to the 479 guestrooms and suites, the project is underway and will be unveiled in the fall. Operated by Davidson Hotels, the hotel sits along the scenic Charles River where the energy of Boston blends with the intellectual vitality and charm of Cambridge, MA, and is the ideal gateway for guests to explore these historical New England cities.

The renovation will encompass a full redesign of the hotel’s entrance and lobby, an overhaul of the property’s 25,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, the addition of a new dining outlet and neighboring market, a new state-of-the-art fitness center outfitted with Life Fitness equipment and Peloton bikes and upgraded technology for a seamless overall guest experience. The project was designed by Campbell House and will feature a mix of styles to reflect the local universities and the life science community.

“The public areas of the hotel needed a refresh to be transformed to a unique, exciting destination,” said Jenn Di Stasi, senior designer, Campbell House. “College students from the surrounding universities and their families come to Hyatt Regency Cambridge for a relaxed, yet sophisticated environment to take breaks and socialize. Travelers for both business and pleasure will enjoy the public areas as less of a traditional hotel lobby and more of a lounge with space to play shuffleboard with friends or plug in and get work done.”

Upon arrival within a brand-new front entrance, guests will be welcomed by the hotel’s upgraded perimeter lighting that borders the hotel and luminates the city’s skyline. The spacious lobby and the iconic atrium will feature design details of warm neutrals and rich leather accents that will evoke the history and charm of the surrounding cities. Customized art pieces will decorate the walls as a nod to the local universities, evoking an enlightening aesthetic and ambiance.

“We drew a lot of inspiration from the rich history of Cambridge and its beautiful architecture and added modern elements for a fresh, young design,” Di Stasi said. “The location and culture of the area heavily influenced the design of the public areas. We used warm materials that you would see in the local universities mixed with industrial elements from the historical ports to create a beautiful, inviting juxtaposition. The restaurant is designed like an American tavern, referencing the local history, and creating a fun, hip spot for locals, college students and travelers with an amazing view of the Charles View River.”

Paperback Tavern, the new bar & restaurant, will feature a menu of classic American fare, innovative cocktails and craft brews paired with expansive, unrivaled views of the Charles River and city of Boston. A classic tavern with modern influence, the atmosphere will be fun and playful, making it an ideal social environment for events or gathering hub for local residents and scholars.

Paperback Provisions, a market-style carryout outlet located in the lobby, will offer a custom coffee bar, house made pastries and other quick meal options for guests before they venture out to explore the surrounding area.

Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge has the capacity to accommodate the needs of any size group or event, making it the prefect destination for meetings, weddings and celebratory gatherings. This fall the hotel will debut fully upgrade meeting and event spaces with decor that reflects the destination’s rich history and adjacent river through design elements of grays, blues, neutrals and light wood accents. All 19 meeting venues, including three ballrooms and a pavilion, will be themed to strongly showcase a connection to the area, touching on the patriots, river and harbor and marine life. Groups will have access to advanced technology such as audiovisual capabilities and CAT-6 wireless technological platform, as well as a meeting concierge service and localized group activity options. Whether utilizing a ballroom with floor to ceiling windows, the elegant courtyard or the lush garden, business and social groups alike can count on a scenic backdrop of breathtaking river and Boston skyline views.

Coinciding with the current virtual environment, the hotel will roll out enhanced technology through the World of Hyatt mobile app in order to provide a seamless and streamlined guest experience. Guests will have the opportunity for a personalized check-in experience, a mobile key feature for contactless and convenient check-in, a digital concierge to easily explore the surrounding area and real-time engagement with hotel staff through chat capabilities.
