As Los Angeles prepares for an unprecedented run of global sporting events, Hilton Los Angeles Airport is undertaking a $50 million guestroom renovation designed to modernize one of the city’s largest airport hotels while redefining the experience for today’s international traveler.
The 1,234-room property near LAX is fully refreshing its accommodations through a phased renovation scheduled for completion next month, strategically timed ahead of the FIFA World Cup and a wave of international visitation expected to continue through the Super Bowl and Olympic Games.
“This renovation is about more than refreshing guestrooms—it’s about preparing for the next era of travel to Los Angeles,” said Jeff Ragonese, GM. “We now have a modernized product that reflects the energy of L.A. while delivering the comfort, flexibility and functionality today’s travelers expect.”

The redesign centers on balancing efficiency with comfort, acknowledging the hotel’s role as both an international gateway and a destination for event-driven travel. “The redesign was guided by the goal of delivering a future-ready product for one of the busiest international gateways in the country while creating a calm, contemporary retreat that reflects Los Angeles,” said Ragonese.
Drawing inspiration from Southern California’s coastal environment, the guestrooms feature warm lighting, natural textures and a soothing palette intended to help travelers decompress after long flights. Integrated furnishings and layered lighting support both short stays and longer visits tied to major events.
Modern minimalism meets subtle mid-century influence throughout the redesign. King guestrooms incorporate deep teal tones to create a calming atmosphere, while double-queen rooms feature persimmon accents inspired by coastal sunsets. “The tones add personality without overwhelming the space and help create a sense of place that feels connected to Los Angeles,” he said.
A key strategic decision was converting all double-bed guestrooms into double-queen configurations, reflecting changing travel patterns and increased demand from families, groups and sports tourism.
The conversion was achieved without structural expansion. “It was accomplished through thoughtful space planning rather than structural expansion, using integrated headboards and streamlined furnishings to maintain square footage while improving usability and visual clarity,” said Ragonese.

Every guestroom received comprehensive FF&E upgrades, including new mattresses and linens, redesigned desks and integrated feature walls combining storage, workspace and television into a cohesive design. “The combined dresser-desk unit streamlines the layout and maximizes usable space,” he noted.
Bathrooms were fully rebuilt with new tile, fixtures and LED-lit mirrors, while sustainability initiatives introduced multi-use bath amenity bottles to reduce single-use plastic waste.
The renovation also introduced a range of practical technology upgrades centered on convenience and connectivity, including USB and USB-C outlets, upgraded thermostats and mini-refrigerators added to every guestroom for the first time.
Accessibility upgrades were integrated throughout, with ADA guestrooms featuring roll-in showers, sliding bathroom doors and automatic curtain controls. “The intent was to ensure that every guestroom category delivers the same level of comfort, modernization and usability,” said Ragonese.
Renovating more than 1,000 guestrooms while remaining operational required careful orchestration. Floors and wings were taken offline in rotation, with active construction buffered between closed levels to minimize disruption. “The renovation was completed in carefully planned phases to minimize disruption to guests and operations,” said Ragonese.
Several renovated floors have already reopened, offering views of the runway and the entertainment district as Los Angeles prepares for an influx of global visitors.
For Ragonese, the project ultimately reflects a broader moment for the city itself. “It’s a once-in-a-generation moment for Los Angeles,” he said. “As the world arrives for the FIFA World Cup, the Super Bowl and the Olympic Games, Hilton Los Angeles Airport stands ready to host guests with refreshed spaces and hospitality worthy of the world’s stage.”
