Tripadvisor: 56% of Americans planning fall trips

According to Tripadvisor’s Fall Travel Index, which references search and site data between the period of Sept. 1-Nov. 30, to reveal consumer travel trends, more than half (56%) of Americans plan to take a trip of at least four nights this fall, and Labor Day weekend is an easy time to do just that.

Notably, the week of Sept. 1-7 will be the busiest travel week for the entire fall season. Watch the roads in particular on Friday, Sept. 2, as this will be the most popular travel day.

Outside of the U.S., Cancun is the No. 1 international holiday destination for American travelers for Labor Day weekend and fall overall. However, Nayarit, on the country’s scenic Pacific Coast just north of Puerto Vallarta, tops the list for strongest year of year growth for the long weekend.

How will they get there?
Despite the air travel headaches of the summer, nearly half (49%) of Americans plan to travel by plane this fall and Labor Day is no exception.

Why will they travel?
Food & activities: When it comes to the most exciting components of a trip, the top five picks for Americans are food (54%), activities (52%), followed by people and scenery tied for third (48%) and weather (40%).

Spending or saving?
Despite inflation, Americans plan to spend more on their Labor Day travel plans than they did in 2021, as travel remains a priority.
