Thompson Houston opens

Thompson Houston has opened as Houston’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel. The new-build hotel is housed within a glass and exposed-steel building by architectural firm HOK overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park.

The property features 172 guestrooms, including 34 suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows, custom-made furnishings and en-suite bathrooms with marble vanities. Interiors were designed by Houston-based architecture and design firm Abel Design Group.

“We’re thrilled to open Thompson Houston and offer guests and locals an unparalleled hospitality experience in Houston,” said Ted Knighton, managing director. Thompson Houston. “With a unique design and stellar location beside Buffalo Bayou Park, we are excited to become a home base for visitors and locals alike and what will surely be the most sought-after social space for weddings and events.”

The hotel offers a seventh-floor, mid-century modern-styled lobby; an outdoor rooftop with a custom-tiled infinity pool boarded by cabanas; more than 17,000 sq. ft. of flexible indoor and outdoor event space; and a 2,500-sq.-ft. greenspace.

An entire floor is dedicated to the full-service Thompson Spa at Thompson Houston, and hotel guests also receive access to the EOS fitness center located near the hotel. The property is also home to an all-day dining restaurant in the lobby and the first brick-and-mortar outpost of local coffee company, Maven Coffee Company, which was cofounded by Houston Astros baseball player Lance McCullers Jr. More F&B outlets will open throughout the year, including two from restaurant group Noble33.

The hotel is close to The Galleria mall, the River Oaks neighborhood, downtown Houston, the Museum District, Minute Maid Park and Shell Energy Stadium.
