The South Heats Up: Three Openings in the Sunshine State

NATIONAL REPORT—The SLS, The Island by Hotel RL, and TRYP by Wyndham all took root near Florida’s coastline. Here’s what to know:

SLS Expands to Brickell

The Related Group, sbe and Allen Morris Company plan to open the SLS LUX Brickell Hotel & Residences this summer. This is the third SLS-branded property in Miami. SLS LUX is the fourth of nine jointly developed projects in the pipeline for The Related Group and sbe. It’s proximate to Mary Brickell Village and Brickell City Centre with retail, cinemas and restaurants nearby. The property has 450 condominiums with private elevators and 70 guestrooms and suites. 

The SLS brand is continuing its momentum from 2017, following the launch of the 299-room SLS Baha Mar in the Bahamas, and the signing of multiple development and management deals in North America, Latin America and The Middle East. In the next five years, the SLS brand will triple in size, opening 12 more hotels and residences in cities including Atlanta; Cancun, Mexico; Washington, DC; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Hotel RL Opens First Resort Destination

The Island by Hotel RL, the first resort destination for RLH Corporation, has opened in Fort Walton Beach, FL. This is the eighth Hotel RL with a pipeline of resort and urban destinations pending. There are fully renovated public spaces, including multiple restaurants, bars and a market. Newly designed guestrooms will debut in 2019.

The beachfront resort has 335 rooms, 14,000 sq. ft. of event space with a penthouse ballroom, two swimming pools, a grotto with a swim-up bar, a beach bar, kids splash garden and a beachside coffee truck.

Tryp by Wyndham Moves in to Fort Lauderdale

Tryp by Wyndham Maritime has opened in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The 150-room, new-construction hotel is situated on 35 acres proximate to boat charters, slip rentals and a cabana-lined pool and outdoor deck. 

Tryp by Wyndham Maritime Fort Lauderdale is the seventh U.S. location for the brand and the third location in Florida, joining recently opened locations in Miami’s Bay Harbor and St. Augustine. Florida continues to be a destination for the Mediterranean-born brand, with multiple locations in the pipeline including Coral Gables, Orlando, Kissimmee and an additional Miami location.
