The Silver Queen

The Little Nell Hotel Group has revealed that its flagship Limelight Hotel, the Limelight Aspen, will undergo a renovation beginning this spring to debut in advance of the 2021/2022 winter season. The Limelight Aspen will be closed for the transformative refresh and renovation.

The top-to-bottom renovation will enhance all of the hotel’s public spaces, including the Limelight Lounge, conference room, lobby and bar, as well as all 126 guestrooms and suites, and its bathrooms.

Additionally, the renovation will also include some programming changes, introducing the Limelight’s standard Kids Club area and expanded dining seating. The renovation design, by Stonehill Taylor, a New York City-based luxury design firm, will inject the iconic, original Limelight property with a new level of vibrancy as well as high-quality furnishings and finishes.

“The Limelight Aspen is the flagship Limelight hotel which opened in 2008. After more than a decade, it has come time for a renovation given the normal capital cycle of hotels as well as plans to expand the brand. The renovation will set an important standard for the brand,” said Abby Bullard, senior interiors associate, Stonehill Taylor.

The renovated product will complement the newest Limelight locations: Limelight Ketchum in Ketchum, ID and Limelight Snowmass, in Snowmass, CO, which opened in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Stonehill Taylor’s approach of reinvigorating the spaces to be fresh, light and welcoming reinforces one Limelight brand pillar, which is to be the living room of the community.

“Aspen’s dynamic history and its natural surroundings inspired elements of the hotel’s design,” Bullard said. “Stonehill Taylor always looks to a site’s context to inform the design of its projects. An aesthetic narrative is shaped from the setting’s past and present.”

This inspiration manifests itself in graceful, layered textures and organic forms throughout the property. The artful treatment of natural material coupled with metallic accents and pops of bright color firmly grounds the design in a contemporary aesthetic. The neutral palette throughout the hotel mixed with earthy wood tones and lively accents is reminiscent of an active mountain lifestyle.

“This design is an ode to Aspen’s legacy as a place of innovation, referencing the discovery of silver and the subsequent invention of ski transportation that put the Colorado city on the map,” Bullard noted. “The design also nods to the geological figure, the ‘Silver Queen,’ that sprawls across Aspen Mountain. This inspiration manifests itself in graceful, layered textures and organic forms throughout the property.”

The Limelight Aspen renovation is helping to inform the design of the next Limelight Hotel, as The Little Nell Hotel Group is simultaneously working to develop a Limelight-branded hotel, residential and private club property in Mammoth, CA, on land it purchased in 2019. When open, the property, which is at the base of Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, will expand the Little Nell Hotel Group’s owned and managed portfolio. Additional hotel projects in high-barrier-to-entry markets are in various stages of The Little Nell Hotel Group’s development pipeline to complement its existing owned and managed portfolio.
