Purdue’s Union Club Hotel introduces AI- and robot-powered massage

The Union Club Hotel at Purdue University, Autograph Collection, in West Lafayette, IN, has expanded its wellness offerings with an Aescape installation, bringing next-generation wellness technology to the property’s spa.

The Aescape system combines advanced robotics, sensors and AI to deliver a personalized massage experience. Using precise digital body scans, the technology maps muscle structure and adapts pressure, technique and focus areas throughout the session in real time based on a guest’s preferences.

Guests control their individual experience through an interactive interface that allows them to adjust pressure, music and target muscle groups, creating a highly customized session designed to relieve tension and promote recovery—perfect for a routine massage to sports recovery and everything in between.

“Innovation and discovery are part of the fabric of Purdue’s campus,” said Damon Bell, GM, The Union Club Hotel. “The Aescape brings an experience rooted in advanced engineering and technology into the world of wellness, offering additional options for our guests.”

Located on the second floor of the hotel, The Spa Union Club Hotel opened in 2023 as a boutique wellness retreat serving hotel guests, university visitors and the community. The addition of Aescape reflects Purdue’s long-standing reputation as a global leader in engineering and innovation while expanding the spa’s curated wellness offerings.

Sessions can be booked as a standalone service or as a complement to the spa’s existing offerings, which include hands-on restorative massage, body and esthetic treatments, nail services and signature spa rituals inspired by Purdue’s legacy and history.

“We’re excited to introduce something new in wellness to the state of Indiana,” said Kari Lynn Myers, spa director. “Purdue is an ideal setting to showcase this cutting-edge technology with the art of massage and recovery.”
