Prepare to be Floored

Flooring designers are looking at geometric patterns, the natural look of wood and vintage designs for inspiration for new collections. See what’s trending underfoot:

Artaic

The Verge Collection from Artaic is a modern interpretation of traditional geometric patterns found in woven, beaded and block-printed textiles. The collection title, “Verge,” is inspired by this convergence of modern execution and traditional design. Verge offers fully customizable “field & feature tile” pairing solutions, that will give design projects a consistent, cohesive aesthetic. The boldly colorful glazed porcelain featured in this collection is available in both a glossy and matte finish.

“Glazed Porcelain has a fantastic durability that allows for a variety of tile sizes, design complexities and application type.” said Ted Acworth, CEO/founder of Artaic. “In focusing one collection on glazed porcelain, we are able to expand our offerings—giving clients an avenue to seamlessly match walls to floors, pool lining to pool decking, etc. For The Verge Collection, with the versatility of glazed porcelain in mind, we created a full range of stunning designs—from the abstract to the exact, in 130 colors.”

Havwoods International

Avobar, located on Covent Garden’s Henrietta St., serves creative dishes in a warm, casual-dining space adorned with fresh produce and framed by botanical backdrops.

The restaurant embraces the beauty of nature with a laid-back California lifestyle design aesthetic that is enhanced by flooring from Havwoods International. To achieve a rich, inviting walkway for shoppers, theatergoers, tourists or locals, U.K.-based DesignLSM chose four different planks from the Henley collection: Elsen (gray), Zuna (brown), Avest (Dark Brown) and Terlet (Light Brown) to complement the organic textures, neutral color palette, distressed white timbers and a range of woven textiles. This high-performance range of pre-finished engineered planks is highly durable and capable of withstanding high footfall installations or heavy-duty use.

“The Henley collection from Havwoods International is a fashion-forward product with style and texture,” said Allan Singh, general manager of Havwoods International. “Henley is an excellent choice for high-traffic areas, like Avobar and other restaurants or hotel public spaces. This pre-finished engineered plank’s textured surface ensures that any superficial scratches and marks are naturally disguised without distracting from the floor’s original aesthetic. The plank’s durable characteristic is a result of sawing, brushing, burning and planing techniques.”

Obeetee

Indian luxury carpet maker Obeetee has released new collections that include hand-knotted, hand-tufted and flatweave rugs.

“We were eager to play with color this season since interior trends have dramatically shifted into color play and pop accents,” said Obeetee designer Molly Gorlick. “Additionally, we wanted to play with texture, exploring vintage finishes and pile variations.”

Parterre Flooring Systems

The Vertu Collection from Parterre Flooring Systems exhibits the artistry of nature through a contemporary collection of organic wood designs that embrace the beauty of natural flaws. This collection complements the bold accent colors found in fabrics and furnishings, serving as a canvas for the overall design elements to play off of, creating an inviting space for commercial interiors.

For a total of 36 designs in the collection, 12 new plank designs have been added to this series with sizes varying by design, available in either 6-in. by 36-in. by 3-mm. or a new size for Vertu, 7.25-in. x 48-in. x 3-mm. Among the standout additions are Shutter Oak, a warm brown wood with a linear design, and a maple wood unique with varying color tones, called Venise Maple. First-time wood species for Vertu includes Silver Bamboo, an abstract gray with metallic shading to it, and Canna Teak, a sleek, warm red/brown wood.

“With the Vertu collection including inviting wood looks with a contemporary aesthetic, the new design offerings are well suited for the hospitality, commercial and multifamily industries,” said Parterre designer Roche FitzGerald. “Vertu’s sleek designs and colors on the floor creates a unique and comforting space in any setting.”

“The Keren design is unique for luxury vinyl,” said FitzGerald. “It has a strong cross hatching, giving it a true woven look that is perfect for commercial settings. And for an installation all its own, pair Keren with any of the new planks in Vertu.”
