Novotel honors Naucalpan

Accor has opened Novotel Mexico City Toreo, an exciting new property in Naucalpan de Juárez. Located near Mexico City’s main business hubs, shopping centers and tourist destinations, the hotel is the main flagship property for Novotel in the North and Central American Region, showcasing the brand’s new design vision.

The property features a disruptive new design, part of a visionary non-standardized approach by Novotel, a leading midscale segment brand. Earlier in the year, Novotel selected four international designers to reimagine new design concepts for the brand and bring them to life at various Novotel locations around the globe. The Sundokovy Sisters, one of the chosen international design studios, led the creative design process for Novotel Mexico City Toreo’s suites, revealing a contemporary style that blends business with pleasure and well-being coupled with unique co-living spaces.

Idea Asociados, an innovative and sustainable architectural firm in Mexico, designed the interiors for all the other areas of the hotel. Inspired by the property’s urban surroundings, the firm created a lively and playful atmosphere with a contemporary feel for the hotel.

“Novotel Mexico City Toreo is based in a very industrial part of Mexico City and we were inspired by the natural surroundings and general atmosphere of this area which reminded us of metal, stone, brick and transportation materials and incorporated these elements into the design,” said Agustín Caso, managing director, Idea Asociados.

Inspired guestrooms and suites
Novotel Mexico City Toreo is a LEED Gold Core & Shell certified property featuring 168 modern design-forward rooms—116 Superior Rooms, 20 Executive Rooms, 20 Superior Suites and 12 Master Suites. Each room features an avant-garde design with contemporary colors, playful furniture and European-inspired furnishings.

“This project captures the spirit of Novotel with a clear, clean and locally inspired design,” Caso said. “The design reinforces the guest experience so that you feel as if you’re part of the city, creating a sense of place and comfort which is a core part of Novotel’s DNA.”

Culinary fusion
Guests can delight their palate at Heliana, a gastronomic restaurant showcasing Mediterranean flavors with Mexican touches. The restaurant features a rustic approach to cuisine, utilizing various cooking techniques incorporating firewood and charcoal. The open concept kitchen offers continental breakfast and buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner and room service 24 hours a day. In addition, the lively Socio Bar offers guests an opportunity to unwind with cocktails and a wide variety of small bites throughout the day.

“We analyzed the building and thought about how to connect the hotel interiors with Novotel’s brand standards and spirit,” Caso said. “We never start a design without creating a story that can be linked to the property’s history and ambiance. Once we had a better understanding of the design story, we generated some basic ideas with materials and design inspiration derived from the industrial area of Naucalpan. While industrial styles can typically feel very impersonal or cold, we softened up the interiors with Novotel’s signature elements.”

Enhanced co-working and meeting space
Novotel Mexico City Toreo offers an extensive suite of amenities and innovative workspaces for every business and meeting scenario. Multiple co-working areas intentionally designed with a relaxed atmosphere in mind allow guests a comfortable working environment, including a business center and five meeting rooms, featuring a total of more than 3,600 sq. ft. of meeting and events space. In addition, three business lounge-style meeting rooms featuring themed décor are available for informal meetings.

“Located in a community of hard-working people, many industries started in this area at the beginning of the past century,” Caso said. “With this in mind, we wanted to create a design that offered a meaningful immersion into Naucalpan‘s history by honoring the local peoples’ impressive work ethic and industries established in the area. The local community always found a way to make these industries feel at home so we wanted the hotel to feel that way, too. As part of the design process, we sourced images, materials and stories from around the area and blended them with the Novotel touch to create something truly special.”

“Novotel Mexico City Toreo gave us the opportunity to create something different and unique,” Caso said. “We want this hotel to be a place where people visit frequently—from overnight stays to visiting the public areas for lunch or happy hour in the evening—we want guests to go there and stay there for its unique style and excellent service.”
