Nature As Muse at Kimpton Muse

Kimpton Muse Hotel, a boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, has completed an extensive renovation that includes the lobby area, a new dining destination known as the Muse Bar and a new fitness center that uses nature as its muse. The renovation provides guests with new and exciting experiences as they embark on their adventures in New York City.

The hotel worked with Kraig Kalashian Architecture & Design (KKAD) to transform the hotel and enhance the guest experience. “Our inspiration for the design came from the idea that nature is the ultimate ‘muse’ to an artist,” said Kraig Kalashian. “For centuries man has been in awe of the grandeur of the world and the elements within it. We wanted to incorporate materials that had rich natural textures and were obviously not ‘man-made.’ The use of rich dark woods contrasted with the veining of stone married nicely with some of the existing installation of plants and interior landscaping.”

KKAD designed the spaces with the guest being at the forefront of the inspiration. Upon entering the hotel, visitors find a spacious, airy lobby that connects with the new Muse Bar, creating a quintessential New York atmosphere for guests to see and be seen. While at the bar, travelers will notice studded metal tiles that reflect the gritty essence of Manhattan, and plush velvets that contrast, exemplifying New York’s sophistication. The palette and furnishings throughout the bar and lobby consist of various textures and sheens, giving the space a layered and curated ambiance.

Light was also an integral part of the design. “The use of lighting also played a large part in highlighting these materials as we placed new lighting at both the ceiling and at the level of the guest. The resulting interior is one that feels balanced and peaceful where people connect with the finishes and the inherent beauty of an environment that sharply contrasts with the harder architectural elements of the city outside,” he said.

Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy an intense workout in the hotel’s brand new 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center, which includes the latest equipment including Peloton bikes. The 1,000-sq.-ft. space also features treadmills and elliptical cross trainers that have individual LCD TV screens as well as free weights and balance balls.

Additional transformed public spaces include new seating areas where guests can relax, work and take advantage of Kimpton’s signature daily Wine Hour that takes place from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
