A Blank Slate With Views to Inspire

Lord Baltimore Hotel’s Skybar, located on the 19th floor rooftop, has opened for the 2019 season. This year, guests can expect new menu offerings, new furniture and additional seating to accommodate private happy hours and events. The project was designed by the hotel’s in-house team.

“When we first saw the 19th floor roof, we were blown away by the possibilities,” said Lee Johnson, director of sales and marketing. “We worked for many months to plot out what we could do to activate the space as an area of the hotel that could be enjoyed by hotel guests and those who live and work in the city.”

Johnson added, “The space was a blank slate, and we really just let the views inspire us—we didn’t want to take away from that; we wanted to complement it. It has comfortable outdoor (weatherproof) lounge furniture so you feel like you are among the clouds. We modified the flooring and furniture to more neutral colors so guests look up at the skyline and colors of the sky and can take it all in. The added herb garden and greenery embraces the outdoors.”

In addition, new this year, established hotel partner Mera Kitchen Collective will host a “takeover” every Wednesday, offering an assortment of dishes prepared by its team of chefs.

“The hotel’s management team did all the work coming up with ideas and implementing them,” said Onahlea Shimunek, GM. “And it’s an ongoing effort. Every year, we work to enhance the space.”

The Skybar beverage menu will highlight local spirits and craft beers.

“This year, we’ve expanded the indoor portion of the space to be able to accommodate the requests we get for group happy hours,” Shimunek said. “We’ve also added a rail along the perimeter for guests to be able to place their food and beverages and some shade opportunities so the summer sun doesn’t impact the guests’ experience. And, because our food program emphasizes local ingredients, we’ve added towers of fresh herbs that we use.”
