Celebrating a city of culture and creativity, The Joseph, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nashville, was designed to fully immerse guests in an artistic experience.
The hotel’s brand and design were fully conceptualized by The Pizzuti Companies, specifically, by second-generation leader and President/Chief Operating Officer Joel Pizzuti.
“When designing the hotel, we wanted it to thoughtfully marry cultural and artistic diversity, history and Southern hospitality. With that, design elements are made to complement the city,” Pizzuti said, referencing the guestroom fixtures, which include custom draw pulls reminiscent of a guitar amp tuning knob, while Denim, the rooftop bar, has a design theme akin to the fabric that is relaxed and tailored with expressions of denim woven into the bar itself and chairs made of soft leather to resemble a jacket.
“We wanted to highlight the character of Nashville in a subtle and sophisticated way,” he said. “Additionally, the hotel creates an experience unique to Nashville by featuring over a thousand pieces of art throughout the property.”
The guestrooms are highlighted by the Tennessee Portfolio, he explained, a series of limited-edition prints from Tennessee-connected artists, as well as 40 other artists from around the world. The Joseph Nashville’s art program is complemented in the public spaces by art from The Pizzuti Collection.
“At Pizzuti, we think deeply about the many aspects of every project we build—from the hand-tooled custom-designed leather panel at the check-in desk created by renowned bootmaker, Lucchese, to the pattern of the marbled Italian floor, our work is drawn from a thoughtful, intentional approach,” Pizzuti said. “We often seek inspiration from the destination in which we are building and designing, and we take nuances of the locale and ensure they are carefully woven into the design and experience of the project to honor the city’s history, as well as incorporate touches from Italian culture and design.”
The Pizzuti Companies worked closely with architecture firm Arquitectonica and interior design firm INC Architecture & Design to bring this inspiration to life.

The Joseph brand was conceptualized by The Pizzuti Companies, named after Joel’s grandfather and family patriarch Joseph Pizzuti.
Pizzuti explained that his grandfather’s commitment and forethought are reflected in every aspect and design detail of the hotel, making the name of the property a natural fit. Especially when it comes to the hotel’s art, every detail from check-in to out is intentional and meant to inspire.
“From the moment guests arrive at The Joseph Nashville, they are immersed in beautiful and vibrant works of art, from an innovative digital art wall and large-scale interactive sculptures in the porte cochère to the hand-tooled leather embellished custom-designed desk by the renowned leather artisans of Lucchese,” Pizzuti said. “The artwork is meant to stimulate inspiration and conversation and adds a residential feel throughout each space of the hotel, prompting discovery in unexpected places. Some of my favorite works include a stunning chandelier by Misha Kahn, suspended above the hotel’s lobby bar that is UFO-like in design and eccentric with color and shape, as well as custom-sketched coffee cups in every guestroom bearing the face of lovable Lou, our family’s French Bulldog. The Joseph Nashville offers guests and visitors a chance to live, for a time, with art.”
