In South America, Hotel Activity Heats Up

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Hilton and Atlantica Hotels will introduce the first DoubleTree by Hilton in Brazil, Sonesta grows its reach in Ecuador, and there’s more happening in South America.

DoubleTree by Hilton to Enter Brazil

Hilton and Atlantica Hotels signed a management license agreement. Atlantica plans to develop and manage DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in Brazil. As part of this agreement, the companies also revealed the first planned DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Porto Alegre, Brazil. This agreement will introduce DoubleTree by Hilton in Brazil.

DoubleTree by Hilton joins Atlantica’s portfolio of 19 brands represented by 120 hotels in Brazil, including Hilton Garden Inn. Hilton and Atlantica have opened four Hilton Garden Inn hotels in Brazil, including the new 153-room Hilton Garden Inn Itajaí, located near Brava Beach; Hilton Garden Inn Goiania; Hilton Garden Inn Belo Horizonte; and Hilton Garden Inn Santo André. The companies plan to open two additional Hilton Garden Inn hotels in Fortaleza and São Paulo.

Scheduled to open in 2021, the first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Brazil will be located at Padre Cacique Ave., in the city of Porto Alegre and Rio Grande do Sul state. The 141-room DoubleTree by Hilton Pontal Porto Alegre will form part of a large complex developed by Melnick Even, which includes a shopping mall and office tower. The hotel will have meetings and events space as well.

Sonesta Expands Presence in Ecuador with Two Hotels

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation is further expanding its international portfolio and footprint in South America with Sonesta Hotel Loja, the brand’s second property in Ecuador.

There are 73 guestrooms, including four suites. On-site amenities include a full-service restaurant, bar/lounge, deli and bakery, business center, gym, pool, hot tub, Turkish bath and steam.

Sonesta Hotel Loja marks the brand’s 16th hotel in South America, under the management of GHL Hotels.

Elsewhere, Sonesta Hotel Arequipa is the brand’s sixth property in the country of Peru. Nicknamed Ciudad Blanca for the white volcanic stone that dresses the city with elegance and tradition, Arequipa is the colonial-era capital of Peru’s Arequipa Region framed by three volcanoes and a rich pre-Hispanic heritage.

The new-build hotel has 110 modern and fully equipped guestrooms as well as a full-service restaurant, terrace bar, business lounge, gym and spa. There are also two executive meeting rooms available with the latest technology.

Park Inn by Radisson Opens in Quito, Ecuador

Park Inn by Radisson Quito, Ecuador has opened following an extensive $4.5-million renovation, which included upgrades and a fresh new design throughout the entire hotel. Accommodations include 55 guestrooms and suites.

Located near the popular Zona Rosa section of the city at Reina Victoria Avenue and Calama, the property is within walking distance of the upscale shopping, restaurants and nightlife at Foch Square, in addition to the city’s fast-growing financial and business districts.

On-property amenities include onsite fitness center, business center and free WiFi, as well as access to nearby public transportation. The hotel’s onsite restaurant, LP’s and Grill, features international cuisine, along with a full bar and live music on select nights.
