NATIONAL REPORT—Hotel openings from coast to coast include CitizenM’s first West Coast hotel, a dual-branded Hyatt Place/Hyatt House in Chicago and others.
CitizenM Seattle South Lake
Dutch hotel and lifestyle company CitizenM has opened its newest hotel in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. It is the 20th CitizenM hotel overall, the first opening of 2020 and the first on the West Coast.
CitizenM Seattle South Lake Union is a 264-key, seven-story hotel located near Amazon and Microsoft headquarters, the Space Needle, the Washington State Convention Center and Pike Place Market.
The hotel facade is wrapped by an innovation-themed art piece by Jesse LeDoux, the former art director of Seattle-based Sub Pop Records. Inside on the ground floor, locally based Native American artist Jeffrey Vereggo has contributed a large-scale tech-themed mural in his comic-book-inspired style.
Offering one room type, the hotel’s amenities include a contactless experience through the brand’s app, a living room in the lobby, a canteenM offering 24/7 food and drinks, free movies and free WiFi.
Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District
The dual-branded Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District, the first combined Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels located in Chicago, has opened in the Beaux-Arts classical-style landmark formerly the site of the 106-year old Cook County Hospital on the near west side. The hotels are operated by Aimbridge Hospitality.
The 342,000-sq.-ft. adaptive-reuse project is part of a $1-billion multiphase plan spearheaded by Murphy Development Group, Walsh Investors and MB Real Estate. SOM and Walsh Construction, in a design-build collaboration, as well as Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc. and KOO came together to restore the building, which features more than 4,000 sq. feet of meeting space, open-concept public spaces, a 24-hour fitness center and Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall, as well as 75,000 sq. ft. of medical offices with Cook County Health, a daycare with Bright Horizons and a museum paying tribute to the hospital’s legacy.
Hyatt Place Chicago Medical/University District offers 103 guestrooms with separate spaces to sleep, work and play, as well as a Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper, while Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District includes 107 apartment-style Kitchen Suites with fully fitted kitchens, living rooms and complimentary skin and hair care amenities from KenetMD.
Cambria Hotel Greenville
Choice Hotels International Inc.’s Cambria Hotels brand has opened the Cambria Hotel Greenville in South Carolina. The four-story, 126-room hotel is the brand’s fifth property in the Palmetto State.
Amenities include guestrooms with spa-style bathrooms and Bluetooth mirrors; on-site dining now also including to-go options; a seasonal outdoor pool and sun deck; multifunction meeting and event space; and a fitness center.
The Cambria Hotel Greenville is located near the corporate headquarters of Michelin North America and a corporate campus for TD Bank, as well as Bon Secours Wellness Arena, TD Convention Center, area universities and the Greenville Zoo.
The Brenton Hotel
Located on the waterfront in the heart of downtown Newport, RI, the newly built and locally owned Brenton Hotel will open on July 31. The property offers 57 rooms and suites with interior finishes that evoke the feeling of an extravagant yacht. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the public spaces and guestrooms offer panoramic views of the harbor and cityscape.
Amenities include The Living Room restaurant and bar, the complimentary hospitality pantry on each guestroom floor, in-room technology, complimentary WiFi and on-site parking with three electric vehicle charging stations.
Opening later this summer, the hotel’s green rooftop will offer leisure games of cornhole, foosball and ping-pong, as well as outdoor sofas and fire pits.
