HB Exclusive: My Place holds Virtual GM Summit

My Place Hotels of America recently wrapped up its 2023 Virtual General Manager Summit. The upper-midscale extended-stay hotel brand designed this two-day event to focus on its general managers’ needs and professional development, emphasizing its dedication to empowering these essential figures in hotel operations.

“Everyone here at My Place works on a daily basis with a primary objective to support your hotels,” said Ryan Rivett, cofounder/CEO, My Place Hotels, at the summit’s opening session. “We have no other mandate than to make sure that quality, value and support exist for both our operating teams and our guests at My Place—and we’ve got a great group of people here to do that.”

This year’s summit was well-attended, featuring delegates from all of My Place’s nearly 70 operational hotels, with several properties represented by multiple individuals.

The “My Place Road Trip”-themed agenda guided the GMs through a range of vital topics, including professionalism, cleanliness, quality assurance and reputation management.

In addition to Rivett’s extensive remarks, the first day included a finance workshop focused on navigating expenses without sacrificing quality, maximizing revenues and capitalizing on opportunities. Additionally, Sarah Cozewith and Adrienne Weil from the AHLA Foundation (AHLAF) provided a comprehensive view of the labor market landscape, recruitment resources, career advancement opportunities and an introduction to various AHLA Network initiatives.

The agenda on the second day included a session on an exploration of guest experiences, the transformative power of feedback, lessons on nurturing guest loyalty, enhancing service quality and fostering meaningful connections, and presentations by Paul Geffre of Ecolab, discussing best practices for consistently achieving clean results, and Violeta Vega from BEST (Business Ending Slavery & Trafficking), who put a spotlight on human trafficking and shared red flags and signs of potential human trafficking in hotels.

“Our general managers are the backbone of My Place Hotels, and this specialized summit is our testament to their invaluable role within our organization,” said Matt Campbell, COO, My Place.”Through focusing on key guest-centered operational areas and featuring guest speakers from the industry’s best, our summit aims to provide general managers with the resources, knowledge and tools they need for both guest satisfaction and the ongoing success of our brand.”
