Haven at the Harbor

Following a public area refresh in 2016, the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel has completed a five-month, multimillion-dollar refresh focused primarily on the guestrooms.

All 622 guestrooms and suites now feature new wallcoverings, carpeting, bedding, furnishings and decorative items. Technology was also top of mind, with the addition of multiple power and USB outlets to charge devices as well as 55-in. HDTVs and a new entertainment package with phone-to-TV Bluetooth connectivity.

The design features a calming palette of grays and blues. “The blues of the harbor are reflected in the tailored design accents, and the spirit of the local art scene is incorporated in art moments, creating a guestroom that celebrates Maryland’s modern shore,” said Regan McLean, senior designer, Parker Torres Design Inc. “The fully renovated bathrooms with white stone look tile, custom vanities with contrasting black metal and a dramatic graphic wallcovering create a sleek and bright atmosphere.”

Key moments of the design include the artwork. “The artwork throughout the guestrooms, suites and concierge lounge are the signature pieces of the design; each piece incorporates Baltimore centric details,” McLean said. “Billie Holiday and musical instrument-inspired art celebrates Baltimore’s roots in Jazz. Art was developed in unique ways, such as folded sheet music and an abstracted wave reflected in the vanity mirror, all requiring you to take a second look and embrace an artisan experience.”

The new guestroom design complements the rest of the hotel, but has its own aesthetic as well. “The color palette in the guestrooms shifts slightly from that of the rest of the hotel, bringing in more light blue, navy and rich camel to brighten the space and add pops of color throughout,” McLean said. “The refresh incorporated several existing items, thoughtfully incorporating these elements among the newly appointed design created an updated, cohesive look.”
