Hospitality management company Frontera Hotel Group, in partnership with SLTX Capital, has been chosen to manage the forthcoming Canopy by Hilton hotel located within the historic Scanlan Building in downtown Houston. The 140-room property is set to open in summer 2027.
The Scanlan Building was originally constructed in 1909 on the site of Texas’ first “White House” during its time as a republic. SLTX Capital acquired the 87,000-sq.-ft. office building to convert it to the Canopy by Hilton hotel. Recognized for its distinctive crown molding, marble walls and the famed Case Maclaim mural of a boy on a bicycle, the building’s heritage will be meticulously preserved throughout the renovation process. SLTX Capital’s redevelopment aligns with Houston’s evolving urban landscape, particularly along the forthcoming pedestrian-centric Main Street Promenade.
“Frontera Hotel Group is honored to be entrusted with the management of this transformative project,” said Zuhair Bheda, SVP/chief development officer, Frontera Hotel Group. “This hotel will serve as a bridge between Houston’s storied past and its dynamic future, offering an upscale hospitality experience tailored to both travelers and locals. The Canopy by Hilton brand is the perfect fit for this revitalization, embracing the building’s heritage while infusing it with contemporary elegance.”
The new Canopy by Hilton hotel will feature a restaurant and bar, a rooftop garden, a fitness center and communal spaces
