Four Sisters Inns, a collection of 17 boutique hotels throughout California, has completed a major set of renovations to two of its founding properties in Pacific Grove: Green Gables Inn and Gosby House Inn. Led by Jennifer Wojtkiewicz of Indigo Coast Design, the wide-ranging renovations were completed in early March.
Situated on Monterey Bay, the redesign of Green Gables Inn combines an oceanfront location with architectural elements to create a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere that encourages guests to relax and unwind. Originally constructed in 1888 by the engineer—and amateur architect—Willam Lacy, Green Gables Inn was the first property in the Four Sisters Collection upon its founding in 1975.
Hallmarks of the renovation include unveiling the original maple hardwood floors in the oceanfront Parlor room, accentuating the high ceilings with oversized chandeliers and shifting the focus to the expansive ocean views by introducing a soothing color palette of soft whites, blues, greens and grays. Historic architectural elements of the inn were also refurbished, including the original stained glass windows flanking the fireplace and the intricate crown molding trim, medallions and unique cornices throughout the inn.
The dining room has been enhanced with tonal textured wall coverings, a fully stocked beverage center, marble countertops and aged brass accents. Tables have been arranged so every guest can enjoy an ocean view.
In addition to the public spaces, the 11 redesigned guestrooms reflect a light coastal-inspired color palette and feature new flooring, window treatments, bedding and white-washed wood furniture. Each room has also been fitted with modern amenities, including a Tivoli BlueTooth audio system, Illy espresso maker, USB chargers and a mini-fridge.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Gosby House Inn’s comprehensive renovation extended to all 22 guestrooms, public spaces and dining areas. The new look blends the inn’s historic old-world charm with modern amenities, furnishings and refinement.
While the inn’s beautiful antiques—such as the vintage armoires and headboards—remain, new window treatments, bedding and seating have been added, incorporating leather, houndstooth, tweed and plaid in burgundy, browns and grays. Framed black and white photographs recall the history of Pacific Grove, and the new custom black and brass sideboards introduce new in-room amenities, including a Tivoli Bluetooth audio player, USB chargers, coffee makers and a mini-fridge.
The Beaumont Room, Gosby House Inn’s front parlor, has been completely reimagined, reflecting a bygone era speakeasy. Renovations emphasize soft lighting, leather seating, framed historic news articles, vintage accents, the prominent marble and brass-tiled fireplace and table vignettes overlooking the downtown district.
At both locations—and at each hotel within the Four Sisters group—a signature breakfast is included every morning with each stay. Guests also receive complimentary afternoon wine and cheese hour as well as freshly baked cookies.
