FAUCHON a fit for Kyoto

FAUCHON L’Hotel Kyoto is now welcoming guests to its design-driven boutique property in Kyoto, Japan. This is the second hotel for the FAUCHON Hospitality brand and the first outside of France. The property is in the Shimogyo-ku district close to Gion, Higashiyama and Kawaramachi-Shijo. The property is also a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

The 70-room FAUCHON L’Hotel Kyoto carries on the tradition of its Parisian-based sister hotel and incorporates all elements of the FAUCHON brand under one roof including a five-star luxury hotel featuring the renowned Gourmet Bar in each room and suite, Le Grand Café FAUCHON, the FAUCHON Salon de Thé, a FAUCHON Patisserie and Boutique at street level, Le Spa FAUCHON and for the first time a FAUCHON Bar.

FAUCHON meets Kyoto in this exceptional marriage of the iconic French FAUCHON hospitality brand with the traditional design and cultural elements of Japan, achieved by Design Studio SPIN of Japan together with Atelier Paluel-Marmont in Paris.

“In the case of this FAUCHON property, Atelier Paluel-Marmont, which is the official design studio for FAUCHON Hospitality, was in collaboration with us to ensure FAUCHON’s key features were present in the hotel design,” said Yasuhiro Koichi, principal interior designer, Design Studio SPIN. “Both FAUCHON and Studio SPIN value the ‘sense of place’ of the local environment and that was the guiding principle along with the resources, history and culture, which means our design would be the one and the only kind by emphasizing the timelessness of the space as it changes over time.”

The new property is a masterful blend of FAUCHON style featuring magenta, black and gold with a nod to its Japanese location. As an example, there are black painted bamboo accents on the walls, Sakura petals incorporated in many design elements including on the lobby ceiling lights as well as fabrics in the guestrooms and suites, and Washi paper (used in Origami) on the wall above the headboards in the guestrooms. Another design element is the bedside lighting which represents the French mille-feuille pastry.

“It is the FAUCHON brand vision to enable guests to appreciate and enjoy a true FAUCHON l’Hôtel experience with very specific elements including FAUCHON’s custom-designed carpeting and furniture—including the iconic Gourmet Bar (designed exclusively for FAUCHON by Roche-Bobois, French design house for luxury furnishings,” Koichi said. “Additionally, on the second floor of the hotel, there is a lattice screen with a French and Japanese pattern, lanterns with the use of three-dimensional KUMIKO, a latticework panel with a technique that does not use any nails and provides guests with a luxurious ambiance.”

Koichi added, “Through the lattice, the guests will be able to enjoy the real traditional Japanese garden. A mixture of French FAUCHON pink and Japanese cherry-blossom pink gently envelops the entire hotel with comfort with luxury. We hope that many guests from all over the world will visit and cherish this unique yet iconic FAUCHON hotel many years from now.”
