Banyan Tree Group adds regional development leaders

Banyan Tree Group has appointed Tom Riley as senior executive director, acquisitions and development for the Americas, and Javier de Villanueva Baygual as business development director for Europe. They will spearhead Banyan Tree Group’s strategic growth initiatives, investments and business development in their respective regions, supporting the company’s expansion goals.

Riley brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having held leadership roles at Marriott International, Hilton, Remington Hotels and Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants. Notably, he played a pivotal role in expanding Kimpton’s portfolio throughout the eastern U.S., Caribbean and Latin America during his 17-year tenure.

De Villanueva Baygual’s consultancy background and network with European hotel investors have led to advising significant transactions in Spain and Portugal, and his recent accomplishments include securing 10 properties for IHG Hotels.

Banyan Tree Group is determined to extend its expansion efforts into the U.S. and North America, the Caribbean and Latin America. In pursuit of this goal, the company is strategically leveraging its existing portfolio of properties in Mexico (Mayakoba, Acapulco, Puebla and Merida), as well as Cuba (Cayo Santa Maria). Furthermore, the group has projects in the pipeline including the Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe and Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar in Mexico, as well as the recent signing of the first Angsana in Spain.
