Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Jack London Square in Oakland, CA, the Waterfront Hotel, a Joie De Vivre property, received a multimillion-dollar spruce up by Studio Hatch that reflects the serenity of its maritime location.
The firm refreshed the marinafront lifestyle hotel’s lobby and collective spaces, meeting venues, as well as 145 guestrooms and suites. Waterfront Hotel now adorns a modernized finish, incorporating a lighter color palette.
“We wanted to keep the integrity of Waterfront Hotel’s maritime location with the intention of creating a higher-end, more modernized look,” said Principal Kate Hanzo of Studio Hatch. “You can see this reflected in our water-inspired palette and seaside influenced materials.”
Now, there’s an inviting, cozy interior with subtle nautical influences. Surrounded by panoramic views of Oakland and San Francisco Bay, the hotel has transitioned to include pale blues, light wood, rust, and coral tones. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a marine-influenced chandelier with white rope supports and glass fixtures beneath a high ceiling with wood paneling reminiscent of a sailboat. A custom-printed wallcovering in the lobby resembles beads of water beside a specially designed fluted white oak desk, embellished with pale blue penny tiles and wave-like curves.
“When guests walk in, we want to convey a more inviting, tranquil feel,” said Hanzo. “To do this we integrated pale blues, light wood, rust, and coral tones, while incorporating bold art choices that pay homage to the vibrancy of Oakland and Jack London Square.”
There’s also abstract artwork, curated by artist Shushi, along the walls of guestroom corridors, the reception area, and collective spaces—as a nod to the property’s location and historical landmarks within Oakland and Jack London Square.
