Hotel Projects Heat Up the South

NATIONAL REPORT—Hotel developments are underway in the South. Brand debuts and branded residences are part of the recent projects in Texas and Tennessee:

Sam Moon Group to Develop First JW Marriott Hotel in Dallas
Sam Moon Group is developing the first JW Marriott hotel in Dallas. The 283-key hotel will be located in downtown Dallas. The 15-floor hotel will be built on top of an existing 10-level parking garage. Amenities will include a grand ballroom and meeting space, spa, restaurant, lobby bar, fitness center, and a rooftop pool deck and bar. The hotel site is in the art district. HKS Inc is the architect, Looney & Associates is the interior designer and a general contractor will be selected in the first quarter of 2020. The hotel is projected to open February 2022.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences to Come to Dallas
JMJ Development will be the developer and owner of a hotel in Dallas, which will be managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. The project, which will also feature branded residences, is scheduled to open in 2022. The development will comprise a 25-story tower located in the Turtle Creek neighborhood. The project is within close proximity to the central business district and a number of cultural attractions. Mandarin Oriental, Dallas will have 176 guestrooms and suites, and four restaurants and bars. There will also meeting and function facilities and a spa.

McWhinney to Bring New Hyatt to Austin, TX
McWhinney will begin construction next month on Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin, a new full-service lifestyle hotel in a downtown Austin location. Expected to open in fall 2021, Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin will have 246 guestrooms, nearly 2,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, food and beverage options and a fitness center. The hotel will be managed by Hyatt. The hotel’s interiors will be designed by Texas-based hospitality design firm Duncan Miller Ullmann. The property will be close to Austin’s historic Paramount and State Theatres, the Austin Convention Center and the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Grand Hyatt Nashville Celebrates Topping Off
Southwest Value Partners, Clark Construction Group and Bell & Associates Construction celebrated the topping off of the 25-floor Grand Hyatt Nashville—first project to come to life within the 17-acre Nashville Yards development in Nashville, TN. Slated to open in fall 2020, the 25-story Grand Hyatt Nashville will have 591 guestrooms, a restaurant, multiple bars, a rooftop lounge, a pool deck overlooking downtown, a Grand Club Lounge and a spa. It will also have 77,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space.
