INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Three new global openings have been revealed, including the first W Hotel in Japan and a concept to provide for the adventurous traveler.
W Osaka
W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, has signed W Osaka, slated to open in 2021. Owned by Sekisui House, a long-standing partner of Marriott International, this opening will be the first-ever W in Japan. The 27-floor, new-build hotel will have 337 guestrooms and suites, along with restaurants and cocktail-centric bars.
With a building facade designed by Osaka-based Tadao Ando, the hotel will be located amidst the indie boutiques and restaurants of the city’s main thoroughfare on Mido-Suji Blvd.
The property will include 35 suites, two WOW suites and one EWOW suite (the brand’s take on the presidential suite). The hotel will offer multiple dining and craft cocktail concepts, including the Woo Bar and a second bar located on the Wet Deck (pool), as well as a fitness center, Fit, and the Away Spa.
Event facilities will include a 4,300-sq.-ft great room and three meeting rooms, all featuring design centered around natural light.
Viceroy Los Cabos
Viceroy Hotel Group plans to bring a new luxury hospitality experience to Los Cabos, Mexico. Viceroy Los Cabos will open in spring 2018, having taken over management of Hotel Mar Adentro, originally created by Mexican architect Miguel Angel Aragonés.
The property is the brand’s first collaboration with Rodina Group, an investment firm specializing in hospitality, real estate, transportation and infrastructure across Mexico, which acquired the hotel in December 2017.
In collaboration with Guadalajara, Mexico-based design firm Al Arquitectura de Interiores, the renovations and updates to be revealed in the spring opening will include a new arrival experience, the addition of a beach bar and beach pool, and an expanded, redesigned fitness center and spa. Two of the four existing dining outlets will be structurally updated and re-concepted to provide distinctive dining and social options.
Upon completion, Viceroy Los Cabos will include 194 rooms, suites and villas, and 50 residences.
Downtown Camper
Downtown Camper, a signature hotel within the Scandic portfolio, will open its doors to the adventurous traveler in early 2018, in Stockholm.
The concept takes an outdoorsy and social approach to hospitality with a focus on spontaneity, relaxation and togetherness, empowering guests to discover the city, according to the brand. Guests can take a complimentary kayak from the lobby and explore Stockholm or grab a bike and tour Gamla Stan’s cobblestoned streets.
The property will have 494 urban explorer-themed guestrooms, as well as nine city-view suites. With adjoined bedrooms and central gathering spots, Camper co-living rooms can host up to 12 guests for a social experience geared toward families and groups.
Other spaces for guests to relax and mingle include the game room, Nightwood cinema, the Camper Lounge and resident restaurant, Campfire.
