Moxy Hotels Makes Moves in NYC, San Diego

NATIONAL REPORT—Marriott International’s experiential, millennial-minded Moxy Hotels brand has opened in New York City and is coming soon to San Diego. Here’s a closer look:

Moxy NYC Downtown Opens

In New York, Moxy NYC Downtown has opened, marking the latest hotel property from developer Mark Gordon after the landmark Baccarat Hotel in Midtown.

“Moxy NYC Downtown proves that innovative design with a focus on what the guest truly desires in-room, a unique destination and an outstanding bar where guests can work and play can be achieved at all price points,” said Mark Gordon, developer and partner of Moxy NYC Downtown, who is also the managing partner of Tribeca Associates. “Many of the lessons we learned from the Baccarat were reinterpreted in the context of the Moxy brand DNA, which resulted in an exceptional hotel.”

The 30-story hotel brings a playful, relaxed vibe to the neighborhood with innovative technology, inspired hotel rooms, an incredible retro-inspired bar and lounge from Jon Neidich—one of the city’s most respected bar and restaurant operators—and a prime location in the heart city’s newest 24/7 hub.

The 298 guestrooms have 10-ft. floor-to-ceiling windows with views overlooking the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges and the city skyline. Among the numerous luxury touch points include signature hanging chairs, Bang & Olufsen surround sound speakers, 50-in. flat-screen TVs, electronic lighting designed to create mood-settings and automated window shades. The bathrooms are decked out with custom vanities, oversized showers, Lefroy Brooks black matte bathroom fixtures and custom tiles cheekily warning, “Slippery When Wet.”

San Diego to Get Moxy

In November, Moxy San Diego is set to open. Debuting as the first California hotel under Marriott International’s experiential, millennial-minded Moxy Hotels brand, the 128-room Moxy San Diego will be a bold, yet funky boutique hotel with plenty of playful touches throughout including its hotel check-in on wheels with a custom lobby trike for guests to receive their digital room key and Bar Moxy’s signature welcome nitro-cocktail served from the lively tricycle.

Located in the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, the hotel’s vibrant lobby will be the main gathering space that will boast the brand’s signature community focused experience with shuffle boards, 80s arcade games, Giant Jenga, Twister, and host distinctive daily, weekly and monthly activations and events. Moxy’s signature Instagram-worthy design will also include a custom painted mural on the hotel’s exterior by a local graffiti artist and the brand’s digital “guestbook” that showcases a stream of fellow guests around the world who tag #atthemoxy.
