Kalibri Labs: Some States See Uptick in Airline Bookings, More Industry Trends

NATIONAL REPORT—Kalibri Labs has released updated data from its COVID-19 Industry Health Dashboard, which is designed to provide critical insights to the hotel community as it weathers the storm of COVID-19.

Among the highlights are the following:

  • Occupancy and guest paid ADR continue to remain relatively flat. Kalibri Labs anticipates that there will be some improvement in occupancy levels in the coming weeks with the start of summer. While the company doesn’t anticipate a spike as the signifier of recovery, it is expecting any continuing growth in occupancy to be accompanied by declines in ADR—an indication that demand and thereby competition is resuming. Kalibri Labs has seen no clear indications of this trend as of yet.
  • OTA, Rack/BAR and Promotion show some indications of WoW growth, but not significant trends.
  • Group business continues to follow a pattern of cancellation as planned event dates get pushed back. This does indicate folks still remain hopeful, and there is potential for group business later in 2020, but that will most likely depend on the easing of public regulations regarding the size of group gatherings.
  • New airline bookings continue to show overall week to week incremental growth. In particular, warm weather states that are also easing restrictions are seeing a definite upward swing in new bookings to their markets. Conversely, destinations hardest hit by the pandemic, such as NYC and Seattle, remain relatively flat week to week.
