IHG Expands Globally with Three New Properties

INTERNATIONAL REPORT­—IHG recently opened two new properties and signed an agreement to open a new hotel internationally.

The InterContinental Fujairah Resort in Dibba, the company’s first in the United Arab Emirates, is a beachfront property on the shoreline of Al Aqah Beach beneath the Hajar Mountains. The luxury resort consists of a series of low-rise Arabesque village-style buildings and combines contemporary design elements with Arab influences that reflect the local heritage and culture. The resort’s 190 guestrooms and suites, including 44 Club InterContinental rooms and 38 suites, each have a balcony.

The resort’s facilities and amenities include a gymnasium, O Spa by L’Occitane, four meeting rooms, a boardroom and a ballroom. The hotel has two dining options including Nama, with a selection of international dishes and Drift, a casual-style beach bar and grill. Horizon offers cocktails on an outdoor terrace at Horizon.

The company also opened Hotel Indigo Antwerp – City Centre, its first property in Belgium.

The 82 boutique guestrooms are designed in warm oak with touches of color on the walls with a focus of botanical and insect motifs reflecting the surrounding neighborhood.

IHG has also signed management agreements with SKS Hotel Residences and Resorts Sdn. Bhd., a member of SKS Group, to open a Holiday Inn in the capital of Johor, Malaysia.

The 318-room Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre, expected to open in 2020, will be part of the Komtar JBCC mixed-use development comprising retail and commercial office spaces.

It will also be connected to the Persada Johor International Convention Centre via the Persada Link Bridge covered skywalk, enabling corporate and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) delegates to commute easily to the convention center and downtown offices.

As one of the first hotels in Johor Bahru to offer internationally branded midscale accommodation, it will be equipped with six meeting rooms and a business center, as well as an outdoor pool and gym for guests. It will also have an all-day dining restaurant and a lounge.
