Hotels Spruce Up in the Sunshine State

NATIONAL REPORT—Florida properties are unveiling refreshed spaces with tropical design and modern decor in mind. Here’s a closer look at the reimagined spaces:

The Savoy Undergoes Tropical Refresh

In Miami Beach, The Savoy Hotel has undergone a multimillion-dollar refresh that has made the boutique property a Miami-meets-Palm Beach tropical and elegant barefoot oasis. Allied Partners partnered with celebrated names in design to re-envision the comforts of the boutique hotel experience. The all-suite resort has been renovated by boutique interior design firm Modplay Studio, which gave the 31 suites a cheerful elegance with embellished vintage lamps, banana leaf-print wallpaper, rich velvet furnishings, brass finishes and eclectic artwork throughout.

The lobby evokes Old World Worth Ave. mixed with sunny Florida room decor, featuring rattan settees, palm frond seating and velvet sofas. A bar cart greets guests and a Café Bar and outdoor garden with an on-premise cigar roller will open in the spring. The amenities continue with the two-acre poolscape outfitted in cabana chairs and a painted mural depicting tropical flora by artist Michael Lin.

The Don CeSar Unveils Redesign in St. Pete Beach, FL

It is “The Don” of a new era as the revival of Florida’s Pink Palace progresses in its 92nd year with the unveiling of the Don Lobby Bar, The Don Boutiques and new dining experiences. This milestone completes Phase II of a three-phase, full-property renovation at The Don CeSar, and preludes the property’s 277-room redesign, which begins in July.

In fall 2019, the National Historic Landmark partnered with Boston-based Parker-Torres Design with the redesign of the Don Lobby Bar, Uncle Andy’s, Maritana and The Don Boutiques retail experience. Parker-Torres Design was also responsible for upgrades to the 70-room, all-suite Beach House Suites by The Don CeSar.

The public spaces will be complemented by upgrades to Floridian guestrooms, the final stage of The Don CeSar’s renovations, also helmed by Parker-Torres Design. Phase III will also round out refreshments to The Don CeSar’s food and beverage establishments. Phase I of the renovations, led by Florida-based Edge of Architecture interior design studio, began in mid-2018 and included a full refresh of the lobby and meeting spaces at the Beach House Suites by The Don CeSar. In addition, 2018 saw the refresh at the main Don CeSar resort campus.

Innisbrook Transforms Guest Accommodations in Tampa Bay, FL

Innisbrook, a Salamander Resort, has completed a remodeling of its guest accommodations.

The resort completed upgrades to the interior of its executive-, one- and two- bedroom condo-style suites. Each unit has been refreshed with new furniture, furnishings, flooring, stainless-steel appliances, quartz counters, cabinets, lighting, draperies and more. The resort’s condo-style accommodations feature complete kitchens and private balconies overlooking the golf courses and landscape.

Innisbrook’s suites, which are located in low-rise lodge buildings, have retained their exterior design. They are intended to blend into the property’s 900 wooded acres through the use of a “back-to-nature” style of architecture, and the buildings deliberately sit below the treetops to offer a sense of seclusion for the guest.

Fisher Island Club Reimagines Spaces in Fisher Island, FL
Fisher Island Club is unveiling renovations just in time for the biggest game of the year—Super Bowl LIV. The Fisher Island Club Hotel & Resort, which just celebrated the island’s 100th anniversary, has completed a multimillion-dollar interior renovation of the historic Vanderbilt mansion, which included the redesign of the Snooker Club, drawing room and library, all quarterbacked by designer Adriana Hoyos.

The new design is a fresh take on Fisher Island’s historic Old World glamour and regal elegance. The Snooker Club and the drawing room have been reimagined into social areas where members can gather for a drink or relaxation. New wallpaper, light fixtures, art, furniture and fresh paint were just a few updates made to enhance and reinvent these spaces.

AHIP Completes Renovations at Two Florida Properties
American Hotel Income Properties REIT LP revealed that renovations amounting to $5.3 million have recently been completed at two Florida hotels: approximately $2.7 million at the 111-guestroom Holiday Inn Express & Suites Fort Myers East—The Forum and approximately $2.6 million at the 101-guestroom Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sarasota I-75. Both of these hotels were transformed following the Holiday Inn Express Formula Blue design and renovation program, and included guestroom updates with new carpets, wallcoverings, window treatments, lighting, artwork, beds and furniture.

Guestroom bathrooms were also entirely redesigned with new flooring, tub surrounds, mirrors, vanities and lighting fixtures. In addition, the lobbies and front desk facilities were completely renovated, the breakfast rooms were updated—complete with new buffet counters—and the fitness centers were modernized, including new fitness equipment. All hotel corridors were also remodeled with new carpets, wallcoverings and lighting, and the exterior of both hotels were repainted and updated with new finishings.
