New properties have opened across the country including an Ace in Brooklyn, two Hyatt brands and the latest Aiden from Best Western.
Ace Hotel Brooklyn
Ace Hotel Brooklyn has officially opened in Downtown Brooklyn.
The property has 287 guestrooms, an in-room art program, a public lobby with multiple bars and an art gallery, plus additional food and beverage outlets on the horizon. Designed by Roman and Williams, Ace Brooklyn’s unique facade welds seamlessly with interiors inspired by the raw artist studio spaces of the European modernists—with soothing and stylish custom furnishings outfitting its every alcove.
A 13-story construction in raw concrete, Ace Brooklyn was designed from the ground up by longtime Ace collaborators Roman and Williams. Stonehill Taylor worked alongside as the architects for the project. Made up of metal, glass and precast concrete elements, the building’s rough-edged facade celebrates the natural beauty of its materials, along with the rugged handiwork of the builders who brought them together. The facade’s centerpiece is a custom ceramic mural crafted by modernist Stan Bitters, coupled with a sculptural light installation designed by Roman and Williams in homage to the Hotel Okura in Tokyo—a beacon of modernist hospitality designed by Yoshiro Taniguchi, which was demolished in 2015.
Inside, interiors marry exposed concrete with other naturally textural elements—surfaces of douglas fir, oak, plywoods and leathers—to form organic, open shapes throughout. The lobby features vintage and custom seating throughout, with half-moon windows illuminating the lobby bar in natural light. The bar is finished with an original wall sculpture from RW Guild artist Verdan Jakšić, and a discreet, large scale drawing by Tara Geer.
Drawing significant inspiration from Le Corbusier’s workspace retreat Le Cabanon, the guestrooms at Ace Hotel Brooklyn were imagined as cabins of creative refuge: elegant and efficient, with the kind of breathing room that stirs up all sorts of possibilities. The furnishings are handcrafted from raw, understated materials—including custom sofas and chairs, classically-loomed cotton bedding and purpose-built, minimalist fixtures. Custom bed covers were crafted by Maine Heritage Weavers; bath products are from uka; in select rooms, acoustic guitars are provided by D’Angelico Guitars; turntables are made by Music Hall, with vinyl record selections courtesy of our friends at Rough Trade. Ace Brooklyn’s in-room art program was curated by artist Niki Tsukamoto, and brings together a dream-woven assortment of original textile and fiber pieces from roughly two dozen artists, many based in the borough.
Hyatt Centric Downtown Nashville
Hyatt Hotels Corporation and C. B. Ragland Company have opened Hyatt Centric Downtown Nashville in Music City’s SoBro neighborhood.
The hotel is located two blocks off Broadway St. and has 252 guestrooms including 11 suites. Every element of Hyatt Centric Downtown Nashville was custom designed to reflect the character and charm of Southern living. The hotel includes a diverse collection of artwork from more than 20 local artists, curated in collaboration with the Nashville Artist Collective. Upon entry, guests will immediately see a custom wall covering featuring the Tennessee state bird and silhouettes of native flora, while the lounge area is highlighted by a ceiling painted in a bold shade of blue, reminiscent of the hues seen on the ceilings of Southern porches. The focal point is a chandelier that pays homage to country music thanks to its metal detailing inspired by outfits worn on stage by country music singers.
In keeping with Nashville’s reputation as a hotspot for honky-tonks and live music, the property has a music-inspired lobby equipped with a piano, record player and collection of vinyl records. The hotel’s ninth floor will feature the city’s newest rooftop pool and bar, two lounge areas, meetings rooms with individual outdoor terraces and fitness center with expansive views of downtown.
Hyatt House Columbus/OSU-Short North
The extended-stay Hyatt House Columbus/OSU-Short North has opened.
The property is located across the from R&D giant Battelle and adjacent to Columbus’ Short North Arts District, Victorian Village and The Ohio State University. The 152-room hotel has 104 suites and 48 den guestrooms. It also has 2,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space and indoor and outdoor breakout options
Rosemont, IL-based First Hospitality was selected to manage Hyatt House OSU-Short North, marking the company’s sixth hotel in the Columbus area.
Aiden @ Denver West/Golden
Best Western Hotels & Resorts has opened its newest Aiden hotel in Golden, CO.
Starting with the exterior, the Aiden @ Denver West/Golden draws in travelers and locals alike with its attention-grabbing murals created by a local artist. Guests are greeted by an “Adventure Starts Here” mural with the building’s latitude and longitude coordinates listed underneath. The mural wraps around the building, moving into a sunrise scene that then evolves into a sunset.
The hotel’s tribute to Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle continues inside, as each floor of the hotel is designed to represent the various seasons with individualized color palettes, custom signage, artwork and murals that transport guests into adventurous spaces. Adding to the hotel’s locally-inspired decor—are the fun, ski-style chair lifts in the elevator, lobby and the outdoor patio. The design of its guestrooms and suites are also inspired by the mountains with neutral tones and wood accents, as well as portraits that depict Colorado’s breathtaking scenery.
The hotel also has an outdoor courtyard with a heated pool, sauna and hot tub and gym.
