Disney Plans New Resort; More Hotels Coming Soon

NATIONAL REPORT—A new nature-inspired resort has been announced for Walt Disney World and other properties are coming soon around the country. Here’s a look.

Walt Disney World to Welcome New Resort

A new nature-inspired, mixed-use Disney resort will welcome families in 2022 along the shoreline of Bay Lake at Walt Disney World.

Located between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, this resort project joins three others underway at the property, bringing a total of more than 1,700 new hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas online over the next four years.

The deluxe resort, which will be themed to complement its natural surroundings, will include more than 900 hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas spread across a variety of unique accommodation types.

The soon-to-be named resort is slated to be Disney’s 16th Disney Vacation Club property. “This resort experience will be a celebration of Walt Disney’s lifelong love and respect for nature, with some fun and even surprising accommodation types that families will find irresistible,” said Terri Schultz, SVP/GM of Disney Vacation Club. “It will give our members and guests yet another opportunity to stay in close proximity to all the newest attractions and experiences in our theme parks, and with the flexibility, value and world-class service families expect from Disney.”

Millennium Hotels and Resorts Breaks Ground on First New Build Project in U.S.

Millennium Hotels and Resorts—the brand umbrella of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc, a global hospitality management and real estate group—recently broke ground in Sunnyvale, CA on the site of the brand’s newest hospitality and residential project, M Social in Sunnyvale, set to open in the first quarter of 2021.

The construction marks the first property in North America and fourth globally to join the collection following Singapore, Auckland and Suzhou. The property will include 250 residences and a 263-room hotel with more than 24,000 sq. ft of function space, including 11,000 sq. ft of flexible meeting and event space, 4,300 sq. ft of outdoor space and 9,100 sq. ft of public spaces.

Additionally, M Social will be the first steel-frame modular hotel built in California. The hotel will showcase a California-influenced stylish and vibrant design, and be positioned at the forefront of hospitality technology, enabling guests and residents to embrace the innovation and visionary mindset of those living and working in the area, according to the brand.

Cambria Breaks Ground in Phoenix

Choice Hotels International Inc. and an affiliate of True North Studio LLC revealed that construction has begun on the new Cambria hotel in downtown Phoenix in the Roosevelt Row Arts District.

Slated to open ahead of schedule in late 2019, the seven-story, 127-room hotel will be the third Cambria property to enter the growing Phoenix area, joining the Cambria Hotel Phoenix Chandler-Fashion Center and Cambria Hotel North Scottsdale Desert Ridge.

The new hotel will have several upscale amenities, including a rooftop pool and bar; spa-style bathrooms; a fitness center; on-site dining with freshly made food, local craft beer, wine and specialty cocktails; and multifunction meeting space.

My Place Breaks Ground in Montana

My Place Hotels of America has broken ground in Kalispell, MT, for its fourth hotel in the state.

A group of Montana investors have combined forces to build the new four-story, 85-unit hotel, which is scheduled to open in April 2019. AMI Development, a firm local to Kalispell, is at the helm of construction. The property will be managed by Management Consultants Inc., which also operates a portfolio of properties spanning multiple brands throughout Montana.
