Czech It: Hotel Brands Plan Debuts in Prague

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Hyatt Hotels Corp., Hard Rock and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts are all planning their first properties in Prague, set to debut in the next few years.

Hyatt to Debut in the Czech Republic with Andaz Prague
Hyatt Hotels Corporation is planning the first Hyatt property in the Czech Republic. The “Sugar Palace” hotel project, currently being developed by UBM Development AG, will become the new Andaz Prague. Located at Senovážné Square, close to Prague’s Old Town, the 175-room hotel is expected to open in 2022.

Originally built in 1916, the neoclassical landmark, commonly known as the Sugar Palace, features a unique architectural design and will provide unscripted access to the rich heritage and history of Prague. The most important sights can be easily reached by foot allowing guests to experience the city’s unique flair, according to the company. Andaz Prague will feature three distinct food and beverage outlets, approximately 4,840 sq. ft. of event space, a fitness center and a spa.

Hard Rock Hotels Take Center Stage in Prague
Hard Rock Hotel Prague is set to open its doors in the energetic capital in 2023. Located within the wider city center, the expansive hotel, with 523 rooms and suites, will offer views overlooking Letna Park and the Prague Castle from the hotel’s sophisticated rooftop Sky Bar.

Alongside the Sky Bar, the 6th floor will be home to a specialty restaurant, with south-facing terraces overlooking the Vltava river valley. Views of the hotel’s three-story ‘Feature Wall’, a 5,900-sq.-ft. soundwave of moving light, will be able to be enjoyed at Lobby Bar and the corridors will be laden with carefully curated music memorabilia. All-day dining will be offered at Sessions, while Constant Grind Coffee & Bar will serve coffee and light bites during the day and transform into a cocktail bar at night.

As well as a rooftop swimming pool and a full-service Rock Spa, other brand-signature highlights will include a Body Rock Fitness Centre, Rock Shop, @Biz Business Center and the brand-signature Rock Star Suite. The project will include an 1,800-person capacity ballroom for live entertainment and meeting spaces totalling 59,000 sq. ft., while the external Woodstock Lawn will be used for exhibitions, social events and more, for as many as 3,000.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Plans First Hotel in Czech Republic
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is entering the Czech Republic with the Golden Prague Hotel. Partnering with Fairmont on this project is R2G Heritage, owner of the property.

Located along the prestigious Parizska Boulevard and on the banks of the Vltava River in the Old Town of Prague, the hotel, currently operating as the InterContinental Prague, will join the Fairmont portfolio under the name Golden Prague Hotel managed by Fairmont as of May 2020. The hotel is planned to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment program in 2022, and is expected to reopen in early 2023 as Fairmont Golden Prague. The renovation will include a design concept extolling the history of Parizska Boulevard during its heyday of the 1970s.

Fairmont Golden Prague will feature 300 guestrooms across eight floors. This includes 40 junior suites, eight suites and one stately presidential suite, which will offer views over the Vltava River. The ninth floor will feature an elegant restaurant offering locally inspired cuisine and a Sky Bar with views over the Instagram-worthy rooftops of Prague. In addition, 27 Fairmont serviced apartments adjacent to the hotel will be in operation as Golden Prague Residences after the hotel opening. The owner, R2G, also plans to renovate the spa and fitness facilities, the 16 meeting and event rooms, which are capable of accommodating more than 1,000 people, and the reception area, with new restaurant and bar venues.
