Activity in Mexico is Heating Up

INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Mexico is seeing its fair share of the action, with hotels opening and more on the way. Here’s the latest:

Susurros del Corazón

Susurros del Corazón, the latest addition to the Auberge Resorts Collection portfolio, has recently broken ground as Punta de Mita’s newest luxury boutique resort, and has commenced sales for a limited number of the 30 beachfront residences. Located on 33 acres overlooking the Bay of Banderas on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, the community will celebrate the boho-chic culture of Mexico’s quaint coastal surf towns while having an attractive contemporary design and providing the highest comforts and upscale services, according to the company.

Upon opening in late 2020, Susurros del Corazón will comprise 59 hotel guest suites, four distinct culinary concepts, a 3,000-sq.-ft. fitness center and yoga studio, kids’ club with daily activities and 4,600-sq.-ft. of event space, including an outdoor patio and an event lawn. Tucked among lush gardens, an Auberge Spa will feature 11 treatment rooms and a variety of treatments inspired by the rich heritage and healing properties of the surrounding Riviera Nayarit region.

The resort’s signature restaurant will connect interior and exterior spaces and capitalize on the ocean views. Outdoors, a casual open-air venue will invite guests and owners, day and night, to gather under large shade trees and a sun-punched trellis for a jungle-inspired dining experience.

The resort is centered around three scallop-shaped pools that will cascade down to the beach. The resort’s secluded beach spans 1,850 linear feet of sand.

SO/ Los Cabos Hotel & Residences

Accor will expand its luxury portfolio in the North and Central American region with the introduction of the SO/ Hotels & Resorts luxury brand in Los Cabos, Mexico. Slated to open at the end of 2021, SO/ Los Cabos Hotel & Residences will be the first SO/ property in Mexico and the second in the region,

The avant-garde hotel & residences will offer stylish interiors and decor combined with signature services, social events, entertainment and unique experiences on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, an area well known for dramatic desert scenery and majestic ocean views.

Situated on 7.5 acres of beachfront, the property will offer 200 guestrooms and 36 luxury residences with beach and ocean views. The hotel will also offer two modern restaurants; a trendy lounge with ocean views, surrounded by five swimming pools; and outdoor event spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The hotel will also feature 7,500-sq.-ft. of flexible indoor and outdoor function space; a SO/ SPA offering bespoke treatments inspired by Mexican beauty rituals; access to an 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course adjacent to the property; and a SO/ FIT fitness center including a striking glass-bottom pool.

Hyatt Place Aguascalientes/Bonaterra

Hyatt has opened Hyatt Place Aguascalientes/Bonaterra, marking the sixth Hyatt Place hotel in Mexico. The new hotel is owned by Parimba SAPI de CV, developed by Promotora Comercial Abadan, part of Grupo Punto Alto, and managed by Grupo Hotelero Santa Fe.

The hotel is located near Industrial Parks and Nissan Plant II, as well as the area’s newest shopping mall, Altaria. It offers 144 guestrooms with separate spaces to sleep, work and play, as well as a Cozy Corner sofa­ sleeper; free WiFi throughout hotel and guestrooms; Gallery Kitchen Breakfast, a hot breakfast for guests available daily; 24/7 Gallery Menu & Market serving freshly prepared meals anytime, day or night and packaged sandwiches and salads; Coffee to Cocktails Bar featuring specialty coffees and premium beers, as well as wines and cocktails; the Odds & Ends program for forgotten items that guests can buy, borrow or enjoy for free; meeting spaces that offer more than 185 sq. ft. of flexible, high-­tech meeting/function space; and a 24-­hour gym featuring cardio equipment with LCD touchscreens and free ear buds.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Playa del Carmen

IHG’s new-build Holiday Inn Express & Suites Playa del Carmen hotel recently opened. With an investment of more than $8 million by Litore Maya, S.A. de C.V., the Holiday Inn Express has 34 standard rooms with queen, king-size, or two double beds, a sitting area with a lounge chair, flat-screen TV, iron and ironing board, and an in-room coffee machine with complimentary coffee. Its 57 suites are also all-equipped with a mini fridge and microwave. The hotel also has a rooftop pool, 24-hour fitness center, on-site guest self-laundry facilities, business center, two meetings rooms, a complimentary parking lot and free high-speed wireless internet. The daily complimentary Express Start Breakfast bar features a full range of breakfast items.

Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa

AMResorts, an Apple Leisure Group-related brand, signed Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa, the third Breathless­ branded property in Mexico. This new deal reaffirms the company’s commitment to expanding AMResorts’ presence in the country where it has more than 30 resorts across seven brands.

Located in the Cancun Hotel Zone, more than $160 million will be invested into the development of Breathless Cancun Resort & Spa. The resort will comprise 429 guestrooms and suites, and it is slated to open in summer 2021.

Kasa Hotel Riviera Maya

Kasa Hotel Collection will open its second hotel in Mexico, KASA Hotel Riviera Maya, in June.

Kasa Hotel Riviera Maya, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, sits in the exclusive beach, marine and golf community of Puerto Aventuras. The 42-accommodation boutique hotel will offer oversized rooms and one- and two-bedroom suites, including three Penthouse suites with pool and terrace, as well as the Kasa Cooper Private Villa. All accommodations will be equipped with flat-screen televisions, air conditioning, WiFi, coffeemaker and in-room safe.

The restaurant will be overseen by Chef Gilberto Canto Pool, whose credentials include the KOCINA Restaurant and SUR Steakhouse in Playa del Carmen, will serve three meals daily as well as light bites at the bar throughout the day. The menu is oriented toward modern Mexican cuisine using seafood and local Mayan ingredients such as chaya and chocolate delicacies.
