A Slate of New U.S. Hotel Projects

NATIONAL REPORT—A slate of new projects have been added to the lodging landscape, with openings or planned openings set in Kauai, Hawaii; Gatlinburg, TN; Springfield, MA and more.

Now Open: Timbers Kauai – Ocean Club And Residences At Hōkūala

Timbers Resorts, an independent developers and operators of private boutique resorts and residence clubs, has opened the Timbers Kauai – Ocean Club & Residences at Hōkūala. The property has views of the Pacific Ocean and Hau’pu mountains with direct access to the expansive shoreline. Wilson Associates’ Dallas studio handled the design.

Owners and resort guests will have prime access to two new food and beverage concepts, Hualani’s Restaurant and Nalu’s Pool Grill, along with The Farm at Hōkūala. Hualani’s Restaurant will offer seasonal farm-to-table Hawaiian cuisine for breakfast and dinner, with poolside eatery Nalu’s Grill serving up casual bites for lunch. Owners and guests will also have access to The Farm at Hōkūala, an organic community farm dedicated to agri-education and managed by Kauai local farmer Cody Meyer.

Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg Opens

The Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg has arrived. It is the third Tennessee property for Margaritaville, with a fourth under development in Nashville.

The resort is located in the heart of downtown, a short distance from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The five-acre, 163-room resort incorporates a casual-luxe design throughout its guestrooms and public spaces—with select rooms providing two queen beds or king beds and fireplaces, one-bedroom suites, two-bedroom suites with dual master bedrooms, as well as family suites with a children’s room.

MGM Springfield

Reservations are now open for rooms and suites at MGM Springfield—opening Aug. 24. The first gaming resort in Massachusetts, MGM Springfield will introduce parent company MGM Resorts’ signature upscale lodging, notable chef-led restaurants, A-list entertainment, lounges and an expansive casino floor to New England. Accommodations include 252 rooms and 16 suites, incorporating historical building facades, reflecting surrounding architecture.

W Hotels Strikes A Chord With Music City

W Hotels Worldwide has plans to open W Nashville in 2020. Owned by Twelfth Avenue Realty Holdings, the new-build hotel is the latest North American development in the brand’s packed line-up of extraordinary new hotels across the United States and beyond, including the soon-to-open W Aspen and W Philadelphia. W Hotels and architecture and design firm Rockwell Group will infuse the culture and musical legacy of Nashville, TN into the property.

RLH Corporation Plans First Hotel RL in California

RLH Corporation has signed a franchise license agreement for a new Hotel RL in Salinas, CA. Hotel RL Salinas is a new-build hotel anticipated to open in 2020, with 95 guestrooms and The Living Stage, Hotel RL’s signature platform for local talent. Additional signature moments will include Victrola Coffee; mobile check-in and keys; free WiFi; bikes to borrow, and more. Hotel RL Salinas will be located at 17560 Calle Del Adobe in Salinas, CA, a beach community and the gateway to the Monterey Peninsula.

Bristol, VA to Get First Boutique Hotel

Coming this September to Bristol, VA, The Bristol Hotel will be the first boutique hotel to open in this Appalachian Mountain city, which straddles Tennessee and Virginia. The 65-room hotel will open within one of the city’s 1925 architectural landmarks—a former executive plaza—reflecting the city’s distinctly industrial roots, musical soul and adventurous Appalachian spirit.

For dining, there is Lumacs, a rooftop bar, serving handcrafted cocktails with 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For street-front dining, Vivian’s Table serves Southern Appalachian-inspired fare with a nod to recipes from the owner’s mother.
