NATIONAL REPORT—Marriott’s Autograph Collection has added to its portfolio in California; Red Roof is expanding The Red Collection with the addition of a property in Springfield, IL; WoodSpring Suites increased its footprint in the Chicago area; and a new Cambria has set up shop in downtown Philadelphia. Here’s a look at what’s new:
Autograph Collection Debuts in Manhattan Beach, CA
Marriott International’s Autograph Collection has opened the Westdrift Manhattan Beach set upon 26 acres in the South Bay—four miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Westdrift has 393 coastal-infused luxury guestrooms and suites, all with views and 112 of which feature private balconies. Named for the westerly winds that famously swept dunes of sugary sand over the Manhattan Beach boardwalk, Westdrift’s lobby has a custom Argentine driftwood check-in desk framed by wooden columns with metal accents inspired by the nostalgic pier. Other property highlights include a golf course, on-site dining, indoor-outdoor event space, and outdoor pool with cabanas.
The creative behind the destination-inspired design are San Francisco-based EDG Design with Theresa Fatino Design as the design consultant.
There are seven Autograph Collection hotels currently open in California, with nine additional hotels slated to open in the next three years.
Cambria Arrives in Downtown Philly
The Cambria Hotel Philadelphia Downtown – Center City has opened in downtown Philadelphia. The 223-room, 15-story upscale property, features Attico, a 3,000-sq.-ft. rooftop restaurant and bar, offering views of the city as the only rooftop restaurant and bar on Broad St.
In addition, there are locally inspired design elements such as art commissioned by Philadelphia-based artist and illustrator Hawk Krall, 2,500 sq. ft. of multifunction meeting space, a business center and a fitness center. The ground floor of the hotel will be occupied by Del Frisco’s Grille, an upscale bar and grill with a private dining room. In addition, the hotel offers contemporary on-site indoor and outdoor dining including a signature bar, serving a menu comprising local specialties, liquor, wine, and local craft beers, as well as grab-and-go salads and sandwiches.
Built by Pearl Properties, the building was designed by DAS Architects Inc., of Philadelphia, and is managed by Concord Hospitality Enterprises.
